Indian convicted in Germany for espionage

Berlin, August 1
A 45-year-old Indian national has been sentenced to a nine-month jail by a German court for spying on the Indian community in the country.

Ranjit S, an electrician, violated the German law by engaging in espionage operations, the high court in Koblenz said in its verdict delivered last week.

The court said during the trial that the convict had collected information on the Indian community in Germany, especially on Sikh extremist groups, and passed it to an official at the Consulate General of India in Frankfurt. It ruled that the convict committed the offence not only by “gravely disregarding” Germany’s sovereignty but also by cooperating “conspiratorially and actively” with the Indian intelligence agency.

Ranjit, who came to Germany in 2002 with a forged passport, told the court that he was a Sikh and in India he worked as a member of the All India Sikh Students’ Federation which campaigns for an independent state in Punjab, the court statement said.

He has been convicted on several occasions in the past for acquiring fraudulent identity cards and for smuggling of foreigners. —PTI

Canada & Germany are main shelter providers to pro khalistani militants apart from our western neighbour. Infact culprits of 1984 plane hijacking are living happy life in Germany.

What should they do about extremist groups in India? This is about an illegal immigrant, who himself has worked on smuggling people into Germany, that now also was charged with spying attempts and all that would be against the law in India too right? So would we have acted differently in India? If Indian government wanted official intel reports, they could had contacted the German authorities, but this was not about that, but about spying on possible friends, families or supporters of that Sikh group in India. And the Indian agencies simply used a privat person for it, who got caught doing things against the German laws.

Terrific news. Its news like these that show us how RAW operates, how they keep tabs on threats to India and nations they consider as enemies of the state.

The very fact that Germany was the target tells us how Germany is using Sikh extremists to undermine Indian interests. Pretty much like how pakistan using sikh and muslim extremists from India.

A shame Ranjit S cover was blown. It appears like German intelligence counter measure against RAW. I hope after 9 months India gives a Hero's welcome to Ranjit S or whatever his real name is.
