PKKH Editorial

The 23-year old rape victim, who was gang raped and attacked with an iron rod eventually gave up in the battle for life on Saturday, in a Singapore hospital and was cremated on Sunday morning. She had suffered severe internal injuries caused by the assault; infection had reached her lungs and abdomen, suffering liver damage and a brain injury she eventually died from organ failure. All this for the pleasure of drunken predators, who had marked their target in a moving bus, amidst the over-crowded de-humanized roads of Delhi; this is an everyday happening in India, only people don’t bother.

It is commendable that amidst wide-spread public uproar that has sent the higher authorities trembling, the ‘Indian army and navy canceled their New Year’s celebrations, as did Sonia Gandhi; head of the ruling Congress party and several hotels and clubs across the capital also did the same’. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed his ‘deepest condolences’ to the family of the victim and protesters and politicians from across the country are calling for new laws to increase punishments for rapists and to set up fast-track courts to deal with rape cases. But apparently all this is not enough to treats the acute state of conditions, especially for women, in the country.

Delhi the national capital, unlike most world capitals, has an ugly picture; being well-documented world-wide for its tourists scams, dirt and garbage, overcrowding, over-pricing and a dangerous to drive in place. The city of over 16 million has not only become ‘the country’s crime capital, it is rated as the most unsafe city in India for women, and sexual harassment and molestation are common occurrences. Men can often be found lurking around tourist areas, and greatly enjoy staring at and approaching foreigners’. Delhi is the eighth most populated metropolis in the world and one of the most heavily polluted cities in India; suffering in repulsive air, water, noise and solid waste pollution. Therefore it is clear that mere protest and promises will not serve even as to tilt a leaf in the problems of the city.

Above all this is the dilemma of a nation confused in many gods, for ‘too many standards’ is equivalent to ‘no standards at all’. In fact India is a nation trying to imitate an imported secular-liberal stance, which has rendered it unable to draw a line between right and wrong anywhere; where scripture enhances prostitution and where the law has recently legalized gay sex in the country, it will become increasingly difficult for the common man to figure out what is right and what is wrong. The common man for whom the only thing bright to see in India is the movie screen; if now he will not be able to differentiate between a man and a woman, how will he differentiate between a wife, a sister or any unlawful relation?

No wonder sex crime has been a major issue in India since long, but an issue conveniently brushed off and for good reason; only in the past five years, ‘260 candidates charged with crime against women have contested elections’. Congress has been unable to put to trial or remove even those who have been elected into their assemblies and have even declared that they have been charged.

In such scenario India will fast convert into a barbaric state, although draped in modern outfit. The outbursts of protests in India are the signs of the last breaths of a dying conscience of a bewildered nation and it is advisable that the authorities take some U-turns to save their people.

When barbarism comes to saturating point it boils down not boils up.

The outbursts of protests in India are the signs of the last breaths of a dying conscience of a bewildered nation and it is advisable that the authorities take some U-turns to save their people.

i belive that these outbursts if continued are sign of reviving the conscience. if they forgotten it then you might be right.

Is examining religions as a reason behind ills like rape allowed here or not. Just wanted to avoid getting a second infraction since I assumed if one could examine Hinduism as a reason for rape, one could do the same for Islam. After all, the most brutal of the 6 rapists and the one who actually committed the murder in this crime was a Muslim. Please clarify the stand of the forum on this aspect.. Also, while you are rebooting thread, can you please do the same with this one which was closed y'day may be due to some serious trolling by some Pakistani members

http://www.defence.pk/forums/social-issues-current-events/227533-horror-being-woman-pakistan.html

Kindly dont pain Asim further to turn you pink and waste time in clean up.

Just go and read the opening article by PKKH and counter it with logics. Since i dont see they have blamed hinduism.

.
Please dont threaten..

Also, I was refering to subsequent posts by a Pakistani member on why the religion of Hinduism is to be blamed for rape in India. Just want to be clear on whether that line of reasoning is permitted on the forum or not. And if yes, is it same for all religions or only against Hinduism

your even permited to question that, which is enough to show that its a neutral forum unlike indian ones.

anyway the thread had been cleansed so dont litter with dirt.

Which ones ?? We have scriptures of every faith here . Thank you in Advance .

Reverse Logic . Its Increase in Conscience when you don't need parties , jamaats , Religions and other defences to come out in the open but as a complete society and protest on their own .

I dont want to post facts about Hinduism here so NVM.
Its the misinterpretation of Hinduism that is the problem. In our scriptures, women are considered as Goddess. There is no religion where Woman is considered as God.

Look at all the religion, they call God, He. No where in other religions there are any prayers for womanhood.

We worship Lakshmi for wealth, Saraswati for Intelligence. Even in Deewali pujan, both these Goddesses are worshiped while only one God.

Ganesh is worshipped.

We also worship the angry and powerful form of God, Maa Kali. No religion shows woman as the powerful entity than Hinduism.

All feminists can find Hinduism is the only religion where Woman are given equal standing. All Gods are accompanied with their counterpart.

Vishnu-Lakshmi, Bhrahma-Saraswati, Shiv-Parvati.

As a country we transitioning and seeing a lot of social unrest. A boy who at home has seen that its okay for your father to physically abuse your mother, ill-treat your sister clearly learns to be dis respectful to women. As the same boy comes in the main society and sees that there are these other females who are watching a movie, cultivating a relationship – something snaps in their mind. And then the horrendous acts of cruelty.
some very profound example from Ramayan about sita agni pariksha which shows the misogyny ingrained in hindu religion and its culture and this very reason is the rapes of women.
Prabhu ke bachan sis dhari Sita,
Boli man kram bachan punitaa;
Lachhiman hohu dharam ke negi;
Paavak pragat karau tum begi.

(Obeying the words of Lord, Sitaji, pious by thoughts, speech & actions, said: "O Lakshman! You become helpful in following of duty & quickly generate fire for me over here".)

Suni Lachhiman Sita ke baani,
Birah bibek dharam niti saani;
Lochan sajal jori kar dou,
Prabhu san kachhu kahi sakat na ou.

(Listening to Sitaji's words full of sorrow of parting, wisdom & sense of duty, Lakshman got tears in eyes with hands joint, but couldn't say anything to Lord.)

Dekhi Ram rookh Lachhiman dhaaye,
Paavak pragat kaath bahu laaye;
Paavak prabal dekhi Baidehi,
Hriday harash nahi bhay kachhu tehi.

(Looking at the angry/serious face of Shri Ram, Lakshmanji ran & brought the wood for generating fire. Looking at burning powerful fire, Sitaji didn't have any fear in heart but had joy instead.)

Jo man bach kram, mam ur maahi,
Tyaji Raghuveer aan gati naahi;
Tou krusaanu, sab ke gati jaanaa,
Mo kahu hou Shreekhand samaanaa.

(Sitaji saying/thinking in mind: "If I haven't sought any shelter other than Raghuvar in life by my thoughts, speech or actions; then O FireGod - knowledgeable of state of mind of all! Please become cool like sandal for me.)

Shrikhand sam paavak prabes, kiyo sumiri Prabhu Maithili;
Jay Kosales Mahes bandit, charan rati ati nirmali;
Pratibimb aru laukik kalank prachand paavak mahu jare;
Prabhu charit kaahu na lakhe, nabh sur siddh muni dekhahi khare.

(Remembering & cheering the victory of Lord Ram - the Lord of the Kaushal kingdom,
who is worshipped by Lord Shiv & whose feet are purely loved by Sitaji herself; Sitaji entered the burning woods which were as cool as sandal for her. Sitaji's secret shadow only burnt which was prone to be affected worldly pollutions & impurities and Lord's play couldn't be understood by anyone present over there and all Gods & achiever saints were stunned looking at this from the sky.)
