Indian official refuses to be civil at the ICJ

lol. Did our official said jao maaf kia in return?

Who knows who cares. Its making a mountain of a mole hill.

Why? do the Brits always say namaste when they come to India? Or do they do aadab when they go to Pakistan? And if they don't its not taken as an offence. Its a matter of preference.
thats a show of courtacy, this bloke has his hand out and the indian put his hands together, question is why?
whould it have hurt him to shake his hand?

Not really. I too do the same a lot of times. Its not an offensive gesture. If I say, that when a person does not return the namaste it is offensive it is being ridiculous. In Bombay, friend's dad says aadab when I tell him Namaste uncle. How is it offensive?

Like I said, a slow news day.

Namaste is a sign of courtesy as well, just that it's the indian way of doing things. Don't think it's rude in any way.

Why is it hurting people on this forum if an Indian shows courtesy in a manner suitable to our culture?! As long as it's not a snub, don't see what's the issue here.

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill!

In temple also Hindus greet God in the same way--- do they go to temple to disrespect God !! :o:

Courtesy doesn't have a nationality, a british or even a european ownership. That is the indian way of greeting and is his personal choice. If the premise of the argument is my way or the highway then it can be his way and his way only.

well i assume putting your hands together (namaste) in india is more common than shaking hands as compared to pakistan.

fair enough i guess.

Well he has shaken the hand with other officials of the Pak delegations but when it comes to the Dr Faisal he refused to shake hand with him.

I heard he saw Dr. Faisal pick his nose before...hence the reneg on the handshake! LOL

Jokes aside, it shouldn't be such a big deal as it's made out to be..at least not worth the bandwidth and certainly not worth an article!

Need not to be frustrated, in prevailing atmosphere just a natural reaction from an Indian government official towards Pakistan.

Whats wrong with Namaste, first the fake accent, now fake etiquette !
Sorry the british educated council should have talked like Appu from bihar.

And the DG should have respected the indian arseholes culture (which he forgot the first time at ICJ - not gangu telis house in dharavi)and not forwarded his hand for a courteous handshake.

Indian official refuses to be civil at the ICJ

Deepak Mittal, an official of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, refused to shake the outstretched hand of Mohammad Faisal, Pakistan’s DG for South Asia and SAARC.

Amid rising tensions, delegations from India and Pakistan came face to face at the International Court of Justice on Monday. This display of passive-aggressive hostility highlighted the tense atmosphere which pervaded the proceedings.

Mr. Mittal had previously shaken hands with Pakistan’s Attorney General but then refused to shake Mr. Faisal’s offering a namaskar instead.

This goes to show the depth of animosity which has penetrated the relations between Pakistan and India. Even at an international forum, representatives are not civil.
