Indian Navy has 'hegemonic mindset': Pak naval chief

Karachi, Feb 24 (PTI) The Indian Navy's current force structure and future expansion plans "reflect its hegemonic mindset to further flex its muscles and become a blue water navy," Pakistan Navy chief Admiral Noman Bashir said today.

Bashir made the remarks while addressing a naval aviation seminar in the southern port city of Karachi.

He said the Pakistan Navy is keeping a watchful eye on its area of responsibility to ensure the free flow of traffic and to effectively tackle threats and challenges.

As the sea is the most economical medium of transport, sea lanes of communication have become lifelines for survival, economic growth and prosperity, he said.

However, the sea has also been exploited for illicit activities like piracy, drug smuggling and human trafficking, he noted.

Framing strategies to secure Pakistan's interests and preserving the lawful maritime order in the face of these challenges is a multifaceted and demanding task, Bashir said.

hegemonic = keeping a dominance over the other, for instance political dominance.

Pakistan's Naval Cheif says that India's naval expansion is to politically dominate the region (with a concern over Pakistan).

Whats so strange about it, atleast He dint say, we are going to destroy Indian navy in 48hrs and take control of Mumbai in 96hrs.

Naval dominance has always made empires a Superpower from Greece, Rome, France(Nepolianic times) and later British empire to America today.

With a coastline a large & diverse as ours, the fact that the most important sea lanes are at our door step India has no option but to evelop its Navy even further.

Stop depending on other nation's help in defense matters. If they help, it's good. Otherwise you are doomed.

The best solution is....Build your own strong navy that can put up a fight.

Oh btw, wouldnt Chinese fleet expansion into the IOR, which traditionally doesn't come under the Chinese sphere of influence, be considered as "hegemonistic"?

What the Pakistani Naval Chief has said is true, India is trying to become the dominant Navy in the Indian Ocean. However, this is what is expected, we should want the same thing as well. Whoever controls the waters controls trade. Instead of pointing out the obvious, we should focus on preserving our shorelines against any aggression by them, and begin plans for our own Blue Water navy is required (we will have to eventually, might as well start now).

What kind of thinking is that? Always be prepared to fight your own battles. Don't rely on UAE to send you F-16s and China to send you nuclear subs and all that crap. Why the heck would the World fight our war for us?
