I have no doubt that there is discrimination.Heck we have seen such nasty comments from Indian Members regarding Islam on my threads so we can imagine what they do in real life.

yes dude there is lot of discrimination against muslims here...owner of my private institute is a hindu brahmin n guess what most of our teaching staff is muslim...

There is a difference between private, religious institutions/schools vs public (government owned), secular institutions in India. This thread falls in the first category, which I don't find myself in disagreement with. If this thread was referring to the second category, that would have been a problem.

Private institutions have blanket ban on religious and cultural stuff. Which I am 100% behind. If I open a school and I do not want religious garbs and things to be a part of my institution that will be acceptable. If I pick and choose that a Sikh can wear a turban and bring concealed weapons to school while some other religion cannot. That will fall under picking and choosing inside the boundaries of religious intolerance.

Which Christian schools would they be? Do they specifically ban the wearing of the bindi, but not the wearing of a turban or a Hijab?

In my school, we weren't allowed to show our religions in any shape or form. That meant, no crosses, hijabs, bindis, rakhis, kippahs etc. The only thing that was allowed was Turbans for Sikhs but that's only because the school also had a rule on hair length and forcing them to cut their hair would directly clash with their belief.

It worked damn well, no one knew who believed in what God... the way it should be. Religion should be a personal thing. Not something you flaunt about in public... no matter how proud of your beliefs you are.

But the thing is, this is a Jain school. There might be a school of another faith where people from other faiths (besides that one particular faith) cannot "practice their religious duties'. That is understandable, because they are not bound to do so, & that would not make their actions discriminatory.

I studied in a Christian School where I had to praise the Jesus in the Prayer. I never had a trouble in doing so being a Hindu. Its just the institutions belief. If any of the other religious member are offended they have the right to change in School or College. As its a Jain institution, you better start to respect the rules that they see fit to run the academy else change the college.
It seems people who follow Islam are not tolerant enough with other religion, Its not the rule of this school thats bothering the Muslims its the people(Jain) who run the institution is the problem for Muslims, isn't it.

They are free to do exactly what you are suggesting. I am asking people to not call it a non religious decision as some religions are getting preferential treatment over others. Have to be fair or unfair to everyone equally to not be called out.

Well, that is the policy of that particular private institution, & it would be wrong to fault India for that. Please read Post #57 to get an idea about what my detailed thoughts are.

She should have the RIGHT to wear Hjab be it any institution in India. What is harm in coverig her head. As sikh is allowed to wear the Turban ad she should be allowed to wear the Hijab.

But I beiieve she should just be like other kids and merge and mix with them on most of the days..once in a whie she should wear the Hijab as her RIGHT.

Saudi Arabia doesn't allow people of other faiths to build their places of worship there, or even visit Makkah. Why should Muslims expect any different from non-Muslim countries or institutions?

In the case, do not schools and institution that are run by minorities prefer students of their own belief, do they give equal oppertunity for the other religion? No. so its a partial world where there is no equal rights. We have to accept this for the current times and work today for a equal future. There is no use in complining on what happens rather I would sugest every one to develop tolarance. If you do not have tolerance for the present and the will to change the future, we are not going to evolve but perish.

the same college doesnt impose ban on sikh turbans

no india is not a free country, the above is just a clear example

All that depends on dress code of college management. It is not a govt decision-Neither govt colleges nor 99% of private colleges have any problem with hijab or religious symbols..
its offtopic but i didn't see a single pakistani leaving similar comments in threads about chinese children banned from entering mosques or chinese female muslim officials banned from wearing hijab..

what some idiots dont understand is that this is a privately run college of jain community..
second thing is why all of a sudden she is particular about wearing hijab??

Still some idiots call india secular.

If someone quits smoking / drinking, should he be appreciated or called hypocrite?

There were some news few time back that a college barred a girl wearing mini skirt? Everybody calling that college violater of basic human rights...

This is called hypcriscy.

Muslims should now start thinking about Pakistan movement 2.0

Don't you see the obvious reason? CHINA. If anything happens in India as simple as this thread they point the finger at India and say "you do that you do this?"

weather you call it secular or not, the whole world knows that we are secular. This one incident asking a girl to stik to the Institutions Dress Code is some thing that the Girl should respect. This trivial issues first of all should not even be discused. Its like wasting time one accusing one another.
Kindly read my post earlier about me studying in a Chirstian school and how we can just accept their practice and not carry it with us where ever we go.
