Agreed, its their money. such lavish ceremonies end up obscuring the real event that is marriage between two individuals. Its not about free economy its about values which we practice & preach. We can also pray to god in our minds or spend a billion dollars to decorate, sing, dance ...etc to please the god.

Economy can also benefit if they start a new company with same money.

in 2004, subroto roy of "sahara group" spent 552 crores ( 55 million pounds at today's rate ) on the wedding of his two sons... presently, subroto roy is sitting in jail with the supreme court demanding 20,000 crores ( 1 billion pounds ) with half of that to be submitted at the earliest for his release.

and then there is mukesh ambani with his ugly 27 storey book-case shape house ( "antila" ) in bombay... it supposedly has a staff of 600.
