The Indian military is controlled by the Indian civilian government and decision made in regards to spending must be made with civilian interest in mind. It looks nice when you spends more than required and get the latest tech before anyone else (which India can), but that is not how one runs a country. You have to value in many different factors and procurement must be done in a planned and cost controlled manner. Currently India has over 20 deals going on just for frontline equipment and that should keep us going for a little while. Add to that the numerous deals for parts, ammunition, sub-systems etc etc and we have a huge bill on our hands already. We need to execute them properly so that it does not strain our economy as maintaining our amazing rate of growth is more important than anything. A strong economy is the best deterrent to any enemy.
Dont worry Bro, enough is being done.

^^Yar what i am saying is that sometimes there should be permission to troll for the sake of good health of heart.lol

Yup when you reach their Educational and Industrial Level then you can Indians can call themselves in League of China.

Yar In Order to Beat China you need more economical growth than Military.

i dont think you have read enough to notice that these two countries are the fastest growing economies. These were not affected by recession and US has been talking of more engineers being produced in India than any other country and half of the silicon valley filled with indians. also the country has the most number of people in their prime youth which are almost fully educated. the poors are their parents of the older generation. nowadays everyone from huts to bunglows go to school and has got proper education and there are many free education schemes all over the nation. also everybody agree that indian economy is stronger and is among the topmost.

so what made u think india needs to grow more economic?????
Maybe also the fastest growing military too..

Imran bhai, I expect didn't such comments from you. You have always been one of the most respected members here, and quite unbiased.

Increasing military spending is not with aggressive intention in mind. If you look at the Chinese defence budget, it is several times larger than ours. We can't match China in the numbers game, so we have to go for the qualitative edge, which is expensive. This is not done as an aggressive move towards China, but rather to ensure that we maintain a minimum deterrence and not present ourselves as easy targets. i believe this is the same thing Pakistan is doing.

now as for India's poverty, this is an issue we are working on. but that doesn't mean we should not spend adeqautely on our military. Pakistan also has poverty. Are you going to stop increases in military spending? Of course not. a strong economy cannot thrive without a strong military, especially when surrounded by less than friendly nations. Besides, our military budget is only around 3% of our GDP, which is reasonable by any means.

@pak-yes: ya you are right. we are not in the same league as china. Yet. But to get to that league, the first thing we have to do is believe in ourselves, and take the necessary steps to move forward. If we sit back and listen to, 'you are not in the same league' rhetoric we will never be in the same league!

Our military's purpose is to defend ourselves against aggression, and we will do all that is necessary to protect our interests. Because if we don't do so, we can't ever hope to move forward.

Somehow I feel that Pakistan has this misconception that India is looking to create some sort of a parity with them.......

India has more to lose by going to war....hence our deterrent to keep enemies at bay needs to be equally larger.....
Lets not even bring China into the equation....

Indian military growth threatens Regional stability: Pakistan

True. But don't people realize that inaction against terrorists threatens regional stability as well?

Let me add some new vigour to this thread.

I entered the thread to find out what India is doing to destabilise the region (apart from whatever the conspiracy theories floating around). I sadly found that it is about the defence budget.

I was remembering another thread by another friend from Pakistan -Sehar "For Gods sake ...."

Keeping just to the headine only " Indian military growth threatens Regional stability: Pakistan"

my question is

"Does Pakistan need India to destabilise itself ? "

:smitten::cheers:

I have a few queries :

1. Chinese spending is over thrice the indian defence budget, officially, if pakistan feels the heat, dont the pakistan authorities have heads to deduce that the same heat/threat is felt by india too wrt china?

Last time we checked it was India that was threatening war with its neighbors and not the other way round. So what heat are you talking about??

2. Why dont u claim that chinese heavy spending too is 'disturbing the balance in the region'?

We dont claim because its not, last time we checked China wasnt the one threatning its neighbors with war.

3. China and pakistan r friends with whom we have had 4 wars, if india has to counter both together isnt the indian budget is still short of actually balancing the power of pak+china?

You just answered your own 1st and 2nd queries. Its only imaginary in your heads, fact is its India threatening its neighbors and not the other way round.

4. Pak spends more rcent gdp than india, we r a larger country, more foes and larger terrotery to defend. isnt it logical that wee will spend more?

Learn the basics of economics. Isnt is obvious being a small economy, any amount of budget will result in a higher gdp as compared with a country with a much bigger economy.:disagree:

G. Will any one be bold and say this time to indicate who is actually crying?

I dont see any crying and specially nowhere in the league of our Indian friends here.

personally i find no harm in presenting ur concerns,

Then you must have a whole new definition of the word concern.

People just dont become terrorists just because India and Indians said so. Your reference is towards Hafiz Saeed, again India did not provide sufficent evidence to hold him accountable in any court of law.
