Backward Muslim or backward Chirstian is term used to people who actually fall under some cast which has been classifed as backward but since they are not hindus those people dont get the benefits of quota reserved for those lower casts...
technically irrespective of religion, they should get the benefit but again as I mentioned earlier..cast system should not be the deciding factor..if they are economically backward, then they do deserve an equal tratment..
But there is alos provision in Indian constituion whereby minority community can run their own insititutions and can give first preference to people who belong to that community...
Chirstians have been benefited much by running its own schools, colleges and hospitals...but unfortunately mulims lagging behind....
Problem with Indian muslim is they prefer to be self employed or run small business rather than going for higher education and earn high earning jobs in private or public enterprises...but yes there are few who ve made India proud by their excellence in science and other sectors....like Dr Abdul Kalam...
