Indian Fighter Competition Nears Finals...

I think these offsets are a true game changer- as they have not fully been revealed yet we don't know what each side is offering but we can be sure both sides are offering some "juicy" offsets in this highly competitive and lucrative deal. Boeing recently announced its offset for the C-17 deal- a $500 million USD high altitude test facility, this is a real game changer as India has lacked this capability uptil now and so the Kaveri has had tomb sent to Russia for these tests.

Exactly, and with rife rumours of taking the optional aircraft too, its going to be a mighty $ 10 billion!

Offsetting requirements have added a new dimension to the arms deals, of today. Its no more a seller-wins-it-all, but a balanced two-way win-win.

Yes, very true. These deals, as the international arms industry has got mor competitive, have become as much about the offsets as the product on offer. In fact the final stage of the MMRCA competition is determined, in part, by the offsets of the respective companies after technical fields have been met. I think for the MMRA deal the offsets alone could be $4-8 BILLION USD (depending on final size of MMRCA 126-200) and the C-17 deal where orders are expected to be 22-25 machines could receive offsets ranging from $3-7 BILLION USD (again dependant on final order). These offsets will add significant capability to the Indian defence sector and will eventually be as beneficial to India as the initial weapons purchase (teach a man to fish.....).

To be honest I think this a very much outdated view as HAL/Indian aviation industry has come on enormously in recent times from design and manufacture of their own indigenous plane to licence building of foreign planes.

You overestimate HAL, India may have come a long way but the rest of the world wasn't standing still. Ask the BAE executive you met to arrange a tour of the Euro fighter Manching plant in Germany or Alenia's facility in Foggia Italy and you will understand the level of technical competency required to produce an aircraft that is 70% poly matrix composite.

HAL have mastered the use if composites- the LCA is made of 85% composites, India is an expert in this field. And don't get me wrong I am well aware India has some distance to go but I'm saying is they are improving drastically and they will rise to any challenge given to them. So in that sense don't be as dismissive as you have been of HAL/Indian aviation industry.

EFT will win for sure unless IAF/MOD gets bribed by French, the RAfale is a good strike fighter but the EFT is better air superiority fighter with just as capable strike role

both fighters are very capable one is like mango the other is like pear
