ISLAMABAD: Pakistani officials have said that stubble burning by Indian farmers has caused a thick blanket of smog in Punjab province.

The officials with Environment Protection Department of Punjab province told Xinhua news agency on Saturday night that the smog is causing various diseases and the provincial government is taking measures to control the situation.

The department's minister Zakia Shah Nawaz Khan said that the smog engulfed the province for the last two we ..

Stubble burning is there, practiced since centuries on both sides.
It's something that has added to stubble burning. Have you seen smoke on your roads ? Are there any regulations for smoking vehicles ? What about poisonous smoke coming out of chimneys of factories without implementations of regulations ?

Earlier when paddy was harvested manually only a inch or two of stubble was left. These days with combine over a foot and half is left behind to be burnt.

That could be one cause but what about others, that add smoke whole year ?

This is the biggest cause for smog in month of November... there r a dozen other reasons for across the year pollution.

I don't think it's the biggest cause.
But in case it is, it's still practiced in Pakistan, even after ban. I hope same is case in India. Both of you have inefficient govts.
But still if you travel on straight busy road with some kilometers ahead in sight, you will see an accumulation above at some distance. That's about inefficient emission regulations and then implementations in both India and Pakistan.
Nothing to talk about factory owners. They are far more powerful than rickshaw owner with a lot of smoke.

In fact, this was the cause of heavy smog in Pakistan. Thankfully wind changed its direction and weather is clearing up now. What you're seeing on today isn't smog but fog. Hopefully it'll clear up in a few days. Here is false color image of situation right now:

You can see, haze is mostly gone from areas of Pakistan. However, we need to ensure we don't do what they're doing - though, we didn't see much of rice crop residue burning on our side, however, we do burn garbage, plastic etc and run highly polluting vehicles. Also, govt is trying to control emission from factories but you know our system - we must use balanced approach to ensure our survival today as well as tomorrow.

But on their side of Punjab it's almost 70-100 times more burning as compared to us but I agree we need better campaign.

I thought we're just talking about the article - the same amount of pollution becomes headache in winter but in summer it's simply unnoticed because in summer it can quickly spreads and converted back to oxygen by our large number of green agents. :-)

Have you got any source for that ? How come 70-100 times more ?

They are the reasons there, a reality, the pollutants

Countries with far more huge Industry and far more number of vehicles on roads have cleaner environment than Pakistan. Kindly don't defend your corrupt governments.

Seriously? What source do you need? Does NASA sounds authentic to you or I must pull some Indian source? :-)
This is just one day's data, however, if you accumulate all records for past month you'll see the dirty fact you don't want to know.

Pakistan do have pollution issue, however, Pakistan also have more than sufficient green agents to convert the co2 it emits. However, I do agree we need to change things where viable and less polluting options are available.
Kindly don't defend your corrupt governments: Oh, I was just replying because your flag marks Pakistan as your origin, I don't feel like we need to defend ourselves and or explain our actions to some random foreigner.

Cultivation area of Pakistani Punjab is more than Indian Punjab

Pakistan doesn't has more than enough green agent. What jungle you got in Punjab ? Pollution is severe issue in Pakistan

I suffer from dust/smoke allergy, but only when in Pakistan. When I am in highly industrialized country with a lot more number of vehicles (Germany), it's gone and I don't need any medicine. Because there are very strict environmental laws for industry and vehicle owners. And furthermore they got sufficient green agents
