Indian deputy consul general arrested in US on visa fraud charges

.
A whole lot of diplomats gets away with a whole lot of nasty things 99% of the time . Its a nasty world, every one has to act Nasty or you are viewed as a weak nation...

Trust me, that woman would rather be in American prison than in Indian prison , she's probably secretly hoping she's found guilty there ...

As Nixon once said ,

Diplomats should somehow be held accountable for their actions. I did not know a US diplomat acted in the same despicable manner. I've hit a wall in my research on the US diplomat that enslaved his domestic help in 93. Google has very little to offer on the subject.

You are really optimistic. The Adarsh probe has already been rejected and the Maharashtra government won't allow another probe.

The more chances are she will be reeled in by one of the political parties and claimed as a hero.

There is. It seems in a affidavit filed to the govt, she has reportedly given a low value to the flat she had acquired. She had mentioned she bought a flat for 90 lakhs, but in reality she had paid 1.15 crores to buy. She may even face dismissal.

.
Even if India can sneak her out, this woman will forever be a fugitive in the eyes of the US law enforcement. She will never be able to set foot outside India again except NK or Cuba.

The US Department of Justice and the NY DA aren't going to drop the charges unless it is for a real good lawful reason. The good reason would have to be acceptable by the US public.

The US law enforcement is VERY good in piling on charges. You see, from a fraudulent visa application initially to human trafficking. Human trafficking is a serious crime, not just in the US but in all civilized countries.

Law rules supreme in the US. Law is above the flag, the president. When the department of justice is involved, the state department is helpless. Even if Kelly wanted to smooth thing over, the DOJ would tell him to jump into the lake.

Looks like her father is so influential that rules were changed just for her batch while training to facilitate her as observed by the SC in its verdict. With that kind of influence, I am doubtful there will be a fair enquiry.

But I guess with the amount of Media clown surrounding her, I hardly doubt, it will not be noticed.
However the primary concern is bringing back home.

Oh really? Why cant u prosecute George Bush for War crimes, he is said to have been committed?
Moreover, I never knew US had conquered the whole world except for India, NK or Cuba.
Now dont spread ur supremacy bias theory in each n every post/

In yet another harshest retaliation to US arrest of Indian female diplomat, India on Tuesday withdrew all ID cards provided to US Consular officials. This has been termed as a reciprocal measure taken by the New Delhi government in retaliation against the alleged harsh treatment of its deputy consul-general Devyani Khobragade in New York following her arrest in the alleged visa fraud case involving a maid she had taken from India.

The retaliation by Indian authorities is harsh, to say the least, and disproportionate to the maltreatment meted out to Khobragade. This shows that the lady diplomat was not a mere consular officer, she meant much more than a diplomat to Indian authorities and Indian establishment.

Some analysts believe that Ms Khobragade, though a career IFS officer, could be an under cover RAW agent posted to its New York post and her arrest at subsequent humiliation at the hands of US authorities was a message, loud and clear, that they know the identity of Khobragade and her cover was indeed blown up.

This fact got further credence from US evacuation of Devyani’s maids family from India before arresting the diplomat in order to put them out of harm’s way in India. As per procedure, US should have deported the maid after her passport was cancelled by Indian authorities but US desperate action to protect the maid and her family going out of the fold of law clearly suggests that Americans had already laid their hands on some of the movements of the diplomat and were keenly watching her movements through the maid who might have been hired by CIA.

It may be pointed out that Devyani’s dad, a senior civil servant, had already suggested that her maid was on the payroll of CIA and she was spying on the diplomat. The India’s anger clearly point out that Devyani Khobragade was not merely a consular officer.

Devyani Khobragade could be an undercover RAW agent in the US

Visa row: India withdraws ID cards of US Consular staff

Following the end of deadline given by India, the government today withdrew the identity cards of the US
Consular staffhere, in the backdrop of a raging diplomatic row concerning arrest of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade in New York on December 12.

India has decided to take “firm reciprocal steps” following the end of the deadline for surrender of identity cards provided to US Consular Staff in India. As a result, all identity cards provided to US Consular officials now stand withdrawn, according to sources.

The new cards that will be provided to the US Consular Staff in exchange of the withdrawn old ones will be “exact replicas of cards provided to Indian Consulate officials in the US,” sources said.
These new cards will now be given only to the US Embassyofficials and not to their family members as was the old practice. Family members of Indian Consulate officials in the US are also not provided such cards.

Officials said this will ensure “strict reciprocity” in terms of the identity cards being carried by Indian and US consular officials in each others’ country.

Adding fuel to the fire, US consular staff will now only be permitted to import their requirements during the first six months of assuming office as is provided in the Vienna Convention for Consular Relations. Previously, they were allowed to import their requirements over the three-year period of tenure.

India today also maintained that the freeze on import of liquor and food will also remain and there is no relaxation on that issue.

The government is also believed to be “analyzing and assessing” steps to be taken regarding US schools present in the country and how the teaching staff will be handled.

India maintained that in taking certain measures concerning the traffic arrangements in front of the US Embassy in New Delhi, it has not compromised on the security aspect.

“Changes have been made in traffic movement patterns. No changes have been made in security status of US Embassy in New Delhi and the security personnel remain deployed at check posts there,” the source added.

A 1999-batch IFS officer and deputy consul general, Khobragade was handcuffed and cavity-searched after being arrested by New York Police Department on alleged visa fraud charges and underpaying her housekeeper Sangeeta Richard while she was dropping her daughter to school on December 12.

She was later released on a $250,000 bail and denied making any false claims while accusing Richard of extortion, theft and blackmail.
