In 1999 a prestigious Pakistani source (a 4-star PA officer) claimed that the Indian Army was not fighting fit. I wonder where these theories come from.

This was not a conflict that would test anything beyond the ability of the soldiers on either side of the LoC/IB to fire small arms and small/medium artillery, and validate the strength of the bunkers constructed on both sides.

I am not commenting on the validity of the alleged PA Officer's claims (source?), but merely pointing out that this particular localized and largely static exchange of fire does not offer any great insight into how well either side would perform in a larger scale military conflict.

Not sure what do you want. Are you suggesting that BSF should start heavy shelling when it is reduced at your end? It also tells that India and BSF is having no interest of highlighting or escalating issues unlike Pakistani posters were claiming. Peace need to start from you and we will follow the same.

whatever is the reason, Indians stopped first. then Pakistanis stopped.

Any escalation from the BSF was met with a similar escalation by the Rangers, so the only thing the "response" from the BSF did was to cause an escalation from the other side, eventually causing the BSF to end their tamasha and "go back to sleep", as their own statement indicates.

Well I dont know .
I cant find more data about it.Our Times Now and other jingoistic media was in ground zero for reporting.So we have a lot of info about Indian response .But due to prevention of Pak agencies , you private media cant report like that.

But all of residents in Indian side repeated to media that they dont saw such a massive firing from BSF earlier .
