Some two lacs plus of them gathered I hear (from Bohri friends). Mass religious hysteria (in a nice way). Some 4000+ per day were going by chartered buses, cars, train bogies, etc. from just one small town in Gujarat.

Modi is on the campaign trail, and the Bohra community is very strong and influential.

Google is your friend. I'm not here to teach anyone anything. Equating Sufism with a single school of thought is akin to expecting rain drops to fall together in a single spot. Often times, Sufism promotes fanaticism due to spirituality. It's unfortunate that being a Parsi you haven't been exposed to poetry of excellence from Sufi scholars which had origins from Iran. The wine you speak of was always used in a symbolic gesture in reference to devotion and ecstasy of the mind. I hope you don't think the bearded mullahs were actually taking sips of wine from a flask and waving their heads around like it is displayed in your Bollywood flicks.

Those are dervishes (the rolling round and round dancers in flowing robes).

And we have no connect with Muslim Iran. Only the Zoroastrian population and our holy sites still there.
