What's new

India will require second production line for new Nuclear submarines

Rs. 6000 Crores for 6 Submarines. i.e. approximately 970 Million $ per Submarine.

Hopefully it will be as large as Akula :D
.

6000 crores for 6 submarines that means
1000 crore for one
as on today's exchange rate

1 submarine will cost 1.6 billion dollars which is 161 million dollars. not 970 Million dollars

970 Million is for total 6 submarines then.

Possibly one that will go on INS Vishal AC carrier as well.

INS Vishal it must be Nuclear powered, just last technology for India to master from Navy's perspective.

Oops, let me correct that,

Its 53,000 crores for 6 Submarines. i.e. Rs. 530 Billion or 8.5 Billion $.

Which means Each submarine costs, 1.42 Billion $. :cheesy:

There will always be some new technology over the horizon. It never ends.

Is the new SSN going to be an indegenous design, or a copy of the Akula-2? Or a derivative of the Akula-2? Do we have the knowhow to design an SSN from scratch? Are Russians assisting us?

I have no idea about the costs, but let me point out that 1.6 billion dollars is not 161 million dollars. Thousand million is a billion, so 161 million is a lot less than that. 1.6 billion dollars = 1600 million dollars.

Yes. But it means atleast we are getting technologically close to most cutting edge tech. Yes the gape is still there but it is closing each passing day.

It also tells us why the govt. is looking to lease a second Aukula 2. Its cheaper for us to lease it.

Doesn't matter as long as it serves it's purpose

This will take decades. But slow and steady wins the race.

That was a dumb post.We already have expertise in nuke sub production. So further new SSBN is just a matter of time.

Aridhaman is larger than Arihant but to the tune of 8K-10K tonnes displacement. Akula is 12K+ tonnes.

I don't think they would make it much larger than that.
Completely wrong
Aridhman is Arihant class sub. No change at all. INS Chakra (Akula I improved) is only 8000 tons.
