India will remain the fastest growing economy in 2016: World Bank

India is in the lower income group right now. Getting to upper-middle in the next 20 years will be a massive achievement. Higher income is pretty unlikely.
At this growth rate we may achieve middle income status by 2025.

I think based on the projections the economic growth will continue for 3 to 4 decades !

Because India is a giant and there is lot of potential for growth, In services, Infra, Manufacturing and Agriculture.

We have the most fertile lands and good weather conditions to grow food and animals.

We have human resources to train and employ in Manufacturing and services.

We need to address research and development that will make India a complete entity and a giant !
Well our economy is/will be mostly driven by domestic consumption. Let's hope the global demand increases in future so that we can count on our exports too. Our newer markets can be China and Iran although there are challenges.

.
I suggest everyone reads the discussion I had with @Dungeness at:

before you all start cheerleading and celebrating. There are some really important issues (skilled job employment wise) that need to be tackled, and we need to see how effective this administration will be in spearheading that.

The start is promising, but lots more needs to be done.

The over-infatuation I see with GDP growth needs to end. It will follow automatically if the legwork is done effectively on economic reforms, job creation/skilling and increasing agricultural economic margins.

China is an important market for us, India can help China to overcome its economic situation as well !

I will give you people credit for your optimistic nature. Chinese people in general are a little too critical to any seemly positive news.

I agree that "Skill India" is the best and the most important slogan so far. It should be started from primary education.

. .
But the biggest hurdle is China's protectionism.

Their economy is being transformed into consumer driven economy and so they will look for cheaper products from countries around them for their growth.

ASEAN and South Asia are going to play an important role in this phase for Chinese.

Plus India is a ripe for Chinese to get immediate boost.

Totally agree here!!!

Actually , the problem we have is too many subsidies , democracy, too many political parties , weak tax collection.

bIGGEST PROBLEM IS cONGRESS party ! Recently,IN GST FIASCO, cONGRESS OPPOSED IT LIKE ANYTHING JUST TO SETTLE THEIR POLITCAL MOTIVES......
We need modi govt for 5 more year safter 2019 general elections...to c real change......his programmes and schemes will show result in 5 years or so....

There is a fair critical sentiment for this too in India too. Defence forums portray one small slice of Indian society...and even in here there are enough educated old timers (from what i have seen) to not be so easily swayed by media sensationalism.....and a fair collection of Modi/BJP haters too.

If this year does not consolidate well economically in two main areas: Agriculture, Better quality jobs for youth....Modi will find his political fortunes (already slipping slowly) really start to fall away.

"Main" economic reforms like GST, landbill are actually quite secondary to this (Education, training + labour reforms/programs). This will be the main year for this....there may be one more year of chance (2017) but after that it is anyones ball game for the next election since any positive effects from anything done after will not have time to trickle through.

This year will basically be the final year of me extending strong support to Modi and his govt if he does not take strong decisive action on the most important issues.

I know bro. The thing I mainly judge Modi administration are the things he does not need Rajya Sabha support to implement. There is much to do outside of GST and landbill still!

Its why I am rating his administration a lot higher than the pathetic one before....among other reasons.

But the iron must be struck while its hot as they say.....or make hay when the sunshines etc.. This year will be the real proof of capability if he takes the decisive decisions on major economic policy.

I don't think it will be quick turnaround as China is the largest production house in the world:china:. Its totally different from what we see in USA Economy which is more consumption oriented, it swallows everything:D. Even after $22 Trillion debt just look at that currency:azn:. It is still so strong that I believe it will take another 20-30 years for Chinese Yuan to match that level. (I am comparing China's Yuna because India's Rupee is nowhere near and it is that fact:hitwall:).

I believe India's Economy should be modeled on USA :usflag: instead of USSR or China. Because it is good for our long term prospective from my point of view. :smart:

A steady growth @ 7%-8% for 40-50 years is good for us. Because Sab Ke Sath Sab Ki Vikas is possible.:-)

I blv hes more concerned than us......
Bro, we should also realise that congress gave him empty coffers, tons of debt to start with but i m confident, he ll do well....tryin to be optimistic !
