What's new

India will purchase the MQ-4C BAMS drone aircraft

AWESOME!! I knew it! Expect 6-8 to be just an initial procurement. Great compliment to P-8I, can be operated from a P-8I whilst airborne.

Epic news!! Now expect news on FireScout!!

.
great news,,,,,,,,let the dogs bark....who cares

. .
What is the need for fire scout and these together, do they fulfill different roles?

what i didn't get your mean....i pointed towards who always bark about India is worlds largest importer ....so and so

Naturally. The MQ-4C is shore based and very long endurance whilst the FireScout (can be shore based) for IN would be ship based and has relatively shorter "legs" and is a rotary platform. AFIAK the FireScout can also be armed.

Has the sale been approved by the US congress??

Because the US can be a little bitchy about its UAV technology specially the MQ-4C which is a high altitude long range UAV.

.
We are the only customer for this apart from US forces. Its flyaway cost is $104 million...

Great news but has the congress approved the sale?

So Indian and US navy will have exactly the same systems. P-8 + BAMS. Navy is becoming the most hi-tech force among the three forces.

No because we also will operate Israeli drones and we don't know yet which MR MPA will be selected. Another important addition is missing as well, shore based AWACS for IN, because all these MPAs and drones needs to be linked to provide a bigger netcentric surveillance pitcture. However, at the end, all this means nothing when the naval vesses are not available in numbers or capable enough. Defending such a huge costline is a though issue and it will be smaller or submerged threats we have to be afraid of, not bigger carrier groups or surface fleets. That's why we need to update ICG besides IN as well, otherwise we won't get a credible defence.

Australia will get it to I think.

I believe this has not been decided. They must have pitched this to us and we must have give a positive sign.I don't hear much of noise from Indian media.Below is another version of the story.

To ensure continuous coverage of its oceanic frontiers, the Indian navy would need six to eight Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) unmanned air systems (UAS).

This number would allow India to keep a BAMS airborne all day, every day for 365 days a year, says a Northrop Grumman executive who spoke to Flightglobal at India's Defexpo 2012 in New Delhi.

BAMS would be particularly useful for India because it is optimised to operate in conjunction with the Boeing P-8A Poseidon, of which India has ordered eight examples designated as the P-8I Neptune.

New Delhi is increasingly turning to unmanned systems to patrol its vast ocean frontiers, which include the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal. In January 2011, the Indian navy stood up its second UAS squadron, which will operate Israel Aerospace Industries-supplied Herons and Searcher IIs over the northern Arabian Sea.

^^^ IN will buy it for sure. India does not miss a hi tech weapon from US now a days. C-130J, C-17, Javelin, CBU-105, P-8I, M-777 etc etc.

Till Rustom-H get ready BAMS would be very handy. This is the best UAV in the world currently. Will give IN long range recon capabilities.

Beautiful bird.... \
