four decades ago people made similar sweeping statements such as the above about japanese products..
Today.. Huawei.. a CHINESE manufacturer.. is one of the top supplier of telecommunications equipment..So is ZTE..
All quality products.. and very reliable..
The Chinese are catching up very fast in standardizing equipment.. QC's are being implemented in major establishments..
The much assailed Chinese Iphone of 2007 seems like a toy to the new one I saw today..
the newer.. 'Iphone" copy.. is smooth.. finely engineered..and even the software responds perfectly.. hard to tell the difference unless you open up the apps...
If that is what "copying" brings you.. Id take it any day.. over indigenous achievements..
The Chinese are following a parallel model..
They copy and they innovate.. then merge the two together..
As for the main crux of the topic..
One cannot compare a nation brought up on communism and then rapidly embracing every aspect of the world with India.
Considering all this has been achieved after Mao's "cleanup" that cost a lot of intellectuals and scientists... it is remarkable.
China's rise began in the late seventies.. after Mao's death.. and since then.. it has leapt forwards.. using its strengths as much as possible..
but the main input has been into state institutions first...but private establishments have not been heckled either.
India by contrast.. had its start during the late eighties..and the great "desi" exodus to the US and the west.. the main input going into the private sector..India owes a lot to her private sector.. A strength that till recently was ignored by her state..
India owes a lot of its rise to the Internet and computing.. and Manmohan singh..
If one was to graph the rise.. by that new program.. it would help the thread..
