India urges China to ensure dams don't harm its interests

Hope this case don't affect recent steps taken to normalize relations. We need CBMs, not new disputes.

The flows will not be affected. The purpose is electricity generation.

Diverting a river is not as easy as some people like to suggest. Especially not such a mighty river as this.

Yes, so India just requested data regarding it. And your fellow countrymen jumping up and down.

Even if you divert water out of it, the only country that'll be severely affected by it will be Bangladesh, a nation with whom China shares a cordial relationship. And will give us a moral support to do the same with Pakistan, because as a provincial UN member is doing it.

Fixed that for you.

the dams won't affect the downstream countries,China never did that before, won't do that in the future,in Yangze river we build many big dams upstream, including the world biggest one,it heips the down stream cities Chongqing,Wuhan,Nanjing,Shanghai..control the flood in rainy seasons and improve waterway in dry seasons.damming is different from diverting.

You can't just "divert some" water out of it. Water diversion (especially in such terrain) is one of the most difficult engineering feats, and will be spotted by a satellite as before it even starts.

Secondly, how do you guys feel when Bangladeshi members harbor suspicion of your dams, and/or accuse you of being a "bully"?

Well, that's exactly what you guys do to us. So lots of irony all around.

India asked China in a polite way to share the data about the dam so that they can see if there is some adverse affect on the water level of Brahmaputra. Its nothing to worry about.

stupid indians: other chinese members may have the patience to talk niceties and humor your sort, but the honest answer is plainly that the dams are built by us to screw your lot

and it will be good news for pakistan and BD because they are already being screwed by you dishonest cheater yindoos and cannot be in a worse situation given your bullying and utter insensitivity to their water needs. and now, having yindoos screwed by china constitutes a strategic opportunity because the two downstream-most countries can leverage their friendship with china in any future water talks with yindoos. moral support to and from china, pakistan and BD aside, it is a hard political move that rewards two of yindoos' most suffering neighbors tremendously.

you yindoo lots can pat yourselves on the shoulders that china's damming the rivers gives you a tenuous sense of moral equivalency with your neighbors, but the superficial moral parallel between china's noble intent and yindoos' sinister theft in hydropolitics will be insignificant when compared to the hard ground reality that china gains enormous leverage over you yindoos and you yindoos lose a valuable leverage you thought you held over your smaller neighbors.

suck that, doesn't, yindoos?

After watching the sensational Indian news broadcast i understand why these Indians are a bunch of hypocrites. Just look at the headline 'China provoke India again', propaganda sh!t to brainwash Hindus into believing we are showing aggression towards India because we are building dams. After the dams are finished India will know if harm is being done to them (aka water diversion).

water diversion on our side is a step we must take: by holding this vital resource from these yindoo thieves who have stolen water from their neighbors for decades in blatant disregard of treaties signed in black ink on white paper, we can force these thieves back to the negotiating tables with pakistan and BD. an ambitious water diversion program taking shape in china can be of enormous help to pakistan and BD's hydro- and national security, and because china desperately desires pakistan's and BD's safety and independence from these yindoo bullies, we should start to see water diversion as a national security matter that can buy us genuine good will from our friends and submission and fear from our enemies. currently these yindoo bullies can turn off the tap on our friends at will, and it is imperative that our friends will finally have a friend - in us chinese - to turn off the tap on these thieves so that pakistan and BD can finally gain some leverage over their common bully. on top of being a matter of strategic calculation, it will be a noble undertaking for china to dehydrate the yindoos!

Another video..this time Bangladesh, when hypocrite people talk about Chinese Dam, they automatically lose credibility.

Geez it's just a dam to generate electricity in Tibet, which is fast developing economically. You people really need to argue about that?

it is funny how a chronic transgressor over water usage now conveys to us concern about *its* fair share of water. it will be good that we keep indians concerned and that this concern may one day translate into more sincere actions on india's part to guarantee the water security of our allies in south asia. to that end, we should add more projects to the drawing board just to keep indians on their toes. it is sure fun to see indians turning menacingly towards its smaller neighbors when suddenly finding themselves being screwed from behind by us!

Brother, these indians are devoid of shame and righteousness. They don't want for others what they want for themselves. They are like their zionazi allies.

Just curious...how does china plan to "screw" the "yindoos" by diverting water without also adversely impacting its south Asian ally - BD?!? And if it is an attempt to coerce India into more "equitable" water sharing arrangements, given that water diversion will also hurt BD severely - doesn't the irony become evident?!?

Besides, India is not bullying BD in terms of water. India disallowed the teesta arrangement due to domestic water needs. The percapita availibility of water in BD is 5-6 times that of India and yet some gentlemen from BD have the gall to allege water- bullying when a water-poor nation tries to secure the needs of its people in a domestic issue.
