No bro... its parliamentary democracy that holds us togather otherwise we would have been balkanised, if it there was a monarchy/dictator
You have to understand India is ONLY country in this world to have such ethnic diversity (religious, linguistic, ethnic) and their isn't a majority.. religion itself isnt a good binding factor specially hinduism where there is no set of rules/practises among followers like abrahamic religions. If you move from one state to other in india, language, food, climate, ethnicity all changes.. a society so much divided, if these various people don't get equal representation in govt there will be mutiny.. militarily you cant hold a rebellion backed by common people..
As for communism, indian subcontinent is filled with corrupt people. Communism will never succeed in achieving its goal. You can see west bengal.
Secular democratic India is ONLY option...
Am i right? @Joe Shearer @nair @scorpionx

Very well said...... Communism has its own advantage and disadvantage, Mallus and bengalis knows it better than anyone..... Secular Democratic India is the only option..

Not voted as i feel the poll is a stupid one......

I am pretty happy with the things as they are now, multi party democracy is best for India. Presidential form of govt has too much power in hands of one person. Single party is not really democracy, and two party is not much of a choice.
I like the fact that no matter who you are, you can find a party that talks to you. If there is none, well you can make one.
Its wrong to believe coalition govt keeps India poor.

Coalition government is Weak . Main party is always pulled back by the secondary party or companions in Government .

Given the mass amount of diversity that we have a parliamentary democracy with a multi party system is ideal for India.
ps- I am not saying that it is the best infact it can be a lot worse then it is today.

I dont like 'strong' govt. A govt which consults opposition and deliberates on bills is preferable to me. In any case, India is not poor due to weak govt. A strong govt can buldoze through opposition and make bad decisions. Some of the decision by a minority congress govt (PVN) has done more to remove poverty than strong govt of Indira.

In any case poverty is reated to productivity, govt can at best be an enabler. Most wealth generation in India is going to be due to private capital and not govt decision. A strong Modi govt has done nothing big on economic front, coz they dont have guts.

Well ! Opposition has blocked key bills , Land and GST .

What might have been the result if they were passed , is not important .
But key reforms got blocked .

People make the country. All forms of governments can succeed or fail depending on the caliber and intentions of its leaders.

Constitution of India already provides enough room for the leaders to navigate from socialism on one end to capitalism on the other.

The problems India faces are nothing to do with the form of the government.

The essential theme has always been the subject of liberty. One of the brilliant political thinkers in the late 18th Century observed that the liberal democracy came as a result of a prolonged political evolution through the centuries. It is not necessarily for a pluralistic society i.e for example ours to peruse a governance on democratic theme. The early societies each of which were neatly composed by language or religion even felt the urgency of to dispose of a government that derived their power to rule from inheritance or conquest. These governments not necessarily acted always in the interest of its subjects, their power often deemed dangerous for the people they ruled.

From this came the thought to have a system that would render the people certain immunities in terms of political liberties and rights and a system of constitutional checks that would exercise certain power to limit the sphere of government control. This is was the primary and most popular theme on which the concept of European political liberalism had been established. Soon people ceased to think that the government should be an Independent power, and the state magistrates must be elected periodically from the ruled and by the ruled because only then the interests of a nation could be inseparable with the interests of the people.

So, democracy is indispensable not just for a society that is largely diverse, it is necessary for preserving individual, as well as general public liberties in uniform societies too.

How good or bad will India do , If we have rule like China , Where Nation and its prosperity is above Religion .

In the independent India , Religion is pulling us back . People care more about Religion than People of the Country . In a Diverse country like ours , For us to grow we have to put Religion on the back stage and work together on Socio , Economic and Political development .

What are your opinion ?
During Nehrus rule, religion was not considered. It was pure secularism. Yet India did not progress. So it seems religion is not the culprit that is holding India back

Our starting years of Independence were the most tough .
Sardar Patel and others made sure to Unite India under one .
That is why we stayed behind in development in early years .

Religion is a problem now .
