That does not mean we should not try it. After all we have an enthusiastic scientist group who have successfully sent a probe to mars in first go.

No it is not....the technology of soft landing is developed. in 50's. More than technology luck plays a major role in such missions. Weather in such alien worlds are unpredictable and humans don't have full knowledge of weather of those worlds.

We didn't fail mars mission. It is the Russian rocket that failed us. We are going to send our mars orbiter together with a mars rover by our own heavy rocket in 2020. The payload will be 10times more than your mars orbiter. That is something India not able to achieve. As I say landing a rover safely in another surface is not easy.
