India to raise 40 companies, 4 battalions, Infrastructure near Tibet border

NEW DELHI: No recent Chinese aggression has taken place on the India-China border and there is no threat from the neighbouring country, Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Ranjit Sinha said on Thursday.

Sinha, a 1974 batch Bihar cadre Indian Police Services officer, took over as the chief of the para-military force in a ceremony held here.

"We would be modernizing our force on the India-China border and are in expansion mode. However, there is no threat from China as of now," Sinha told reporters after assuming charge.

"Any incident which requires us to be concerned has not come up," he added.

Sinha said that 40 companies (one company has around 130 soldiers) of ITBP would be formed this year and four battalions (each battalion has around seven companies) would be raised next year.

"We would be setting up new training centres and also strengthening our presence in Afghanistan. A water wing has also been raised recently to patrol water bodies on the India-China border," said Sinha.

The Indian army manned the water bodies for ITBP till now, said ITBP.

"Around 200 men and 25 boats have been assigned the role of guarding the water bodies," said Sinha.

ITBP was conceived Oct 24, 1962 and is deployed on border guarding duties covering 3,488 km of the India-China border, manning border outposts at altitudes ranging from 9,000 to 18,600 feet in the western, middle and eastern sector of the Sino-Indian border.

40 companies X 130 soldiers = 5200 soldiers
4 Battalions (each battalion has around seven companies 7 X 130 = 910 soldiers) = 3640 soldiers

Total = 8840 new soldiers

India and China are trillion dollar+ economy, Pakistan GDP is $150billion only. In simple terms we can afford it.

This is laughable. China do not need Pakistan for defense project. Don't give yourself undue importance.

I was suggesting the chinese spend not pakistan. however paksitan can assist and let chinese have bases in west if nothing else.

Same reason as we can see hatred in the words of many of your countrymen for our country. But back to topic. I actually feel that all three countries pakistan china and india should sort out all border disputes peacefully and be freindly to each other and that we should try to build confidences than move armies against each other

I wish that too but these problems are going to stay. India will not give an inch of Kashmir to anyone and nor will we accede Arunachal Pradesh. These two points are non-negotiable. I'm sure Pakistan and China will have their POV's as well. But the fact of the matter is - India is the status quo power i.e. administers both these areas. India wants and is working to attain enough firepower to make sure boundaries are not changed militarily.

China giving proper visas to Pak Occ Kashmir( P-O-K) PM during his recent visit and Giving stapled visa to Indian general in Kashmir. This shows one thing. China does not want kashmir problem to be solved and is trying hard to get entangled in it.
Although it may be a mark of solidarity towards pakistan but indulging in such cheap tactics can only give them brownie points and nothing else.

The bottom line is we don't give a damn what is their locus stand on kashmir and have enough firepower to beat back China if they attack. Lets c who takes Tawang/Kashmir from India.
