That is not true, I know this is what has been stated by many Pakistanis but Railways have doubled its tracked and converted all narrow into Broad. I am not in favour of broad, not for Pakistan not even for India. It is actually blocking these country connection with outside world.
Pakistan Railways network in terms of its route-kilometres (8557 in 1947 versus 7791 in 2010) has in fact decreased since independence. This is primarily due to abandonment of the narrow gauge lines. Similarly, its total track-kilometres (12,135 in 1947 versus 11,713 in 2010) have also reduced since independence.

What is the current gauge of track use by India, Pakistan and Afghanistan?
At the time of partition, North Western Railway’s 1847 route mile was transferred to India leaving route miles 5048 to Pakistan. In 1954 The railway line was extended to Mardan and Charsada section and in 1956 Jacababad-Kashmore 2’-6’’ line was converted into broad gauge. Kot Adu-Kashmore line was constructed between 1969 to 1973 providing an alternate route from Karachi to up country.
