In an attempt to match China’s massive deployment of forces and other military assets from occupied Tibet, India has given the go-ahead for the deployment of the supersonic Brahmos cruise missiles in Arunachal Pradesh. This will be India’s first offensive tactical missile deployment against China, reported the Indian Express Oct 17.

The report said that with a range of 290 km, these cruise missiles were being deployed to improve India’s military reach into the Tibet Autonomous Region and counter China’s elaborate missile deployment along the India-Tibet border.

The report cited sources as saying the decision was in keeping with India’s second border force expansion plan but was being fast-tracked because of urgency shown by the armed forces.

The five-year expansion plan includes fresh accretion of 89,000 troops, with 400 officers, in one of India’s biggest one-time military expansion effort.

The report said the Brahmos missile regiment to be set up in Arunachal Pradesh will be India’s fourth, with the previous three being deployed in the country’s western sector to counter the Pakistan threat.

The report added that the second Army expansion on the Chinese occupied Tibet border will include the setting up of a corps headquarter in Panagarh, West Bengal, along with two more divisions. This will include the setting up of an independent armoured brigade along with an artillery division.

It seems that things are moving at last, and fast! It's good we're coming out of hibernation. A more aggressive posture is what we were lacking so far against China and which is the need of the day.

What about Chinese?? They have many supersonic cruise missile, The question is, Will china remain keep quit after India is deploying its only supersonic Brahmos?, while Chinese have large variety of supersonic cruise missiles.

I can't see great threat to china and Pakistan from its 290km supersonic. The reason is also, this is joint venture b/w India and Russia and according to international law as this is joint venture India cannot make or test over 300Km of this supersonic.

here it goes fest for troll.

China can deploy anything in Tibetan pleatu. But will India keep quite??After all, their hypersonic cruise missile-the Shaurya has entered production.Unlike Brahmos I,it has range of 2000+ km with 400 kg warhead and top speed of mach 8.Lets see if that can pose a threat or not. What do ya say buddy??

What are the likely targets? Any guesses? IMO only suitable targets in this terrain are likely to be critical infrastructure assets which contribute to enemy's war effort. Destruction of such targets will not influence the battle in the short term, moreover, for targets deeper than 80 - 100 kms into enemy territory, we need satellite coverage to ascertain damage caused to targets. UAVs will also do. What we need more than the Brahmos in this area are light air transportable artillery and lots of them along with lots of helicopters, both transport and weaponised variety. We need lots of UAVs also to maintain surveillance over the rugged terrain.

The Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) which you are talking about inst a "Binding Law" its a voluntary group of 34 countries who have pledged to respect the guide lines. Even the scope of punishment for the rule breakers within the group haven't been stipulated clearly. Well, US being the superpower we assume its opinion has the highest stand in it.
So generally as long as the selective influential countries doesn't protest the deals, beyond the rules 'could' happen for it has happened with US and her allies with missiles ranging even more than 1000kms.

Yes it needs set targets to keep the missile towards...And yes India has satellites which photographs terrains across region. And this will help India keep a look at the enemy territory well within. Even ISRO has launched satellites which can photograph at 1 meter resolution(one of the best quality in the world!!!), meaning they can photograph a cricket ball on ground from space!!!

This is already being used in Kashmir border to keep our neighbours where they belong to and has been a huge success!

Not the least, Missiles are only the final step like a gun first developed fully then loading a BULLET!
