India to Build 6 Nuclear-Powered Submarines - Navy Chief

Abe chikne fir se aa gaya iss thread par apni bezaati karane ke liye:sarcastic:!!Yaha koi bachcha baazi nehi ho raha hain, samajh gaya chikne:lol:!!
Chikne to apna jeeja bana le

That also won't be a bad option in the immediate future, because we got money.. U know what I'm saying.??? Moneyyyy..
yea you got money ,better spend that on toilets first.

Can thorium be used to power submarines / ACC?

Natural Thorium by itself is not a viable nuclear fuel. It needs a feedstock of something else to use the neutrons produced to itself transmute into U-233 (which is fissile).

The big disadvantage is that the "breeding" of new fissile material by adding Thorium to whatever feedstock (Pu or U) would severely impact the reactor's endurance....and you would have to have the facilities and storage processes to continually accomodate for this.

However a U-233 reactor theoretically could serve the same functionality as the conventional military reactors we see in operation today, but much research will have to be done.....and India may simply deem it to not be worth it (since you would also have to research its specific miniaturisation requirements compared to Pu and U etc. + performance envelopes)...compared to the large body of data that exists for nuclear military reactors esp for LWR Uranium designs.

Basically India will have to perfect the civilian side of the three stage program before attempting to make a military U-233 reactor.

Your knowledge is much appreciated on this forum.

LOL....Thorium is not a fissile material buddy.

Thorium however is Fertile. It can be converted into an isotope of Uranium 233 which is Fissile and can be used as Nuclear Fuel.

Only Fissile materials can be used to power Anything. From Power-plant to Submarines.
