India tests Astra BVRAAM

: For the second consecutive day, air-to-air missile, Astra launched from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Orissa, encountered a glitch after meeting the “basic objective” of the mission.

The test of the Beyond Visual Range missile was carried out on Wednesday at 2.05 p.m. as part of the developmental trials. The objective of the mission was to prove high manoeuvrability and lateral acceleration at a speed of around 2.4 Mach. The missile was also test-fired on Tuesday night.Astra is envisaged to engage and destroy fast moving aerial targets at supersonic speeds (1.2. to 1.4 Mach).

S.K. Chaudhuri, Chairman of Astra's Flight Readiness Review Committee and Associate Director, Research Centre Imarat (RCI), one of the premier laboratories of DRDO told The Hindu that the missile's manoeuvrability went off as expected as it reached an electronically- simulated target in 15 seconds at an altitude of 12 km. “It didn't function as per our expectation after that,” he added. He said the launch happened smoothly up to the target interception stage. The scientists wanted to give one more command to the missile after it intercepted the target. However, one channel didn't function. Similar problem occurred during the night trial on Tuesday following a smooth launch. The missile's new on-board computer, navigation system and other data links performed well.

It's a complex missile, a BVRM. These 'glitches' are a part of the development process and 'engineers' (u know what that means?) are working on it. We'll give you 10 Yrs to develop something even close.

Oh it will work - They will now hire some Western Firm have them make it awesome and then call it joint indo western project with India contributing this and that and then it'll be indian missile.

Didn't find anything for too long to start a thread? :lol: Your knowledge on defence matters is zero but your knowledge on English is also zero, we didn't know that!! It says after 'after the missile intercepted the target' and you came up with a story that both missile tests were failed!!! lol

I have never seen you posting when a test is success but when it fails, even if it is partially you jumped into it!!!

What possible command would the scientists give to a missile after interception? I am just curious.
Wouldnt the point of interception be the endpoint? (Noob question)

Don't worry guys, Minor glitches and we will fix it soon. Surely will make u all happy next time with a successful test.

I knew cheap shots like "Back to RFI for consulations" will come our way from the haters but that is something for DRDO to decide. So Haters have all the fun today as tomorrow is not with you. :)

I do not see what the big fuse is about, the US and Russia have test failures too, same with China, that is if they decide to go public.
