What's new

India talks about infrastructure, China builds it...

That's is because their manufacturing sector has been in doldrums for some time now. What else would explain their risky infrastructure investments(though with ulterior motives) in the failing economies of South Asia like Pakistan and Sri Lanka, also the Ghost Cities over there. They are counting on infrastructure projects to bail themselves out of the mess.
Go visit them and see for yourself, they really are leaps and bounds ahead of us.

When you're beat, you're beat.. serves no purpose to piss in the wind, swim against the tide etc.

sometimes you have to fold.

their communist history, an authoritarian one party system, those are topics where you can criticize them.

I actually invited one Indian poster to visit China, no need to go to the Tier 1 cities, go to tier 3 or 4 and see for himself what China has achieved.

I've done that, came away very impressed.

Having said that, it's quite petty of you guys to look down on people who are trying to get there, set your sights higher and go for more, why the snobby attitude ?

Why would the exports suffer? China is not stopping them from selling other goods and services to other countries in dollars. Goods and services sold to China can be in Yuan, reducing financial cost. You also fail to understand the impact of Chinese companies. Example, Huawei wants to sell phones to Tajikistan from Uzbekistan, both can be done in Yuan. As long the portion of trade done with China is in yuan, that's good enough. And yes natural resources can be sold to China to earn yuan to pay back China. You need to understand that money is a medium of exchange for goods and services, doesn't matter it's dollars or yuan, both function the same, the ultimate aim is to transfer goods and services between two countries. The only difference is China is printing this means of echange.
That is the beauty of it all, necessary conditions wouldn't exist for those countries to do business with other countries after the Chinese takeover.

Money is a medium all right, but exclusive transactions in yuan will help you finance your debts by printing more yuan to create assets in foreign countries. Nice move!

I don't look down on India bro. India has her strengths and China has her strengths. But the fact remains, India need to really get her act together. Even in Chennai, so called prosperous south, poverty is rampant.

Bro, how many times I have to say this, nobody is taking over any country and nobody is forcing them to only deal in Yuan, the idea is to deal in yuan for Chinese based trading, bypassing dollar based transaction which will add cost.

For the second point on printing yuan to create assets, =). I will stop there.

We're kind of like a mini Africa in a sense, there are pockets of great prosperity and innovation and science and education and resources etc, but there's also extreme poverty and backwardness.

that's just how it is in south Asia.

You are not the only one with a passport. There is no denying that we have a lot of catching up to do. But what has that got to do with what we are discussing here. India has rightly insisted on the need of more regional cooperation in infra projects like BBIN, North-South Transport Corridor.

Have you given it a thought that it is because of their Communist government and the authoritarian regime that their projects get completed in 3 years while ours take forever to complete. Just saying..

I am appreciative of some of the inherent benefits of authoritarian systems but still wary of them.

individual liberty trumps everything.

taking the piss on their investments in Pakistan and Lanka is weak sauce, we need to up our game, can't fault them for theirs, they are very good at it.

Use your passport and go see for yourself.

This is true.In terms of construction chinese are far ahead of us atm.But that doesn't change the military situation, where we are fully capable of defending ourselves.

And pray what do you think we should do, if you have been attentive in school you wouldn't have raised the cry. Read all of the discussions in this thread, you will find the Han's point of view eerily similar to the British East India company.

I don't care one bit for their investments as long as we are not involved. Colombo and Islamabad can go to hell, and that is INDIA's official point of view.

We believe in multilateralism, aligning our interests with that of our partners.

As i have said, you are not the only one with a passport.

sure, my only point was that we shouldn't diss them or their achievements in areas that they have excelled in and are far ahead of us in.

Where do you find me negating Chinese accomplishments? All i am saying is India considers China a valuable trading partner, we welcome Chinese FDI in India and will guarantee them a reasonable rate of return, but we won't join the BRI or OBOR at any cost in its current form. No matter how much pressure we are put in.

Don't you like to question things around you, analyse? Why do you think we are involved in the current imbroglio. If you are still in doubt, only Han can be of help!

My first reply on the topic was to another user, we've been drifting off-topic ever since. :P

Your first reply on this thread was to me, and i stand by what i said there. Even there i didn't berate their achievements. Read carefully once again you will find context. However i respect your opinion as well as that of all other posters. Peace!

Yah, Indians are smart, industrious and hardworking people but our mutual conflict of interest prevents me from seeing a cooperative future.
