India stands by Egyptians? desire for reform | | | Indian Express
NEW DELHI: India on Tuesday changed its balancing act on Egypt with a nuanced statement that conceded that street protests in Cairo reflected peoples desire for reform.
India continues to closely follow the mass protests in Egypt which are an articulation of the aspirations of the Egyptian people for reform, the External Affairs Ministry said.
It is hoped that the current situation will be resolved in a peaceful manner, in the best interests of the people of Egypt, it added.
In contrast, the statement issued by the ministry two days back made no reference to the people of Egypt.
We are closely following with concern, the developments in Egypt. We hope for an early and peaceful resolution of the situation without further violence and loss of lives, the ministry had said in its first statement.
