India seeks nod from China on UN Council seat

.
you already have russia and china in asia, adding another makes it asia-centric.

brazil is also an enormous growing nation, of difference races and people.

latin americans have no representation, the council needs to be representative of all regions of the world, and a nation not belonging to the volatile eurasian belt is likely to be more neutral and fair on important issues, i mean brazil in many ways can be a neutral perspective because they are so distant.

Amazing you say that they don't have representation at UN,lol, every country has representation in UN.What's your thinking of more than a billion Indian people, who form a major major percentage of the world population go unrepresented in UNSC??

Very true, Brazil is the best choice.

Plus, no permanent members are opposing them.

It might annoy Argentina/Columbia/Mexico though.

International diplomacy does not run like the threads here ..and thankfully too.

Things are changing all around.

China should see this UNSC thing as an opportunity to close so many issues while India too should use this as an occasion to reconcile to its geography.

The Dalai Lama is not getting any younger & things will change on that front too.

What we see and some gloat over is just posturing .

.
Well India is already near to being the permanent member, though without veto for some 10-14 years.

.
this kind of threads are posted nth time ..........
future...
1)chinese will says,u supported lama,no support for seat.
2)we are number 1,we are this and this.........(i dont know wat )
3)then entry of pakistan will take place, then obviously the future will be fully trolled............

so i quit,in this thread.

Africa also has almost a billion people.

The Islamic world also has over 1.5 billion people.

If neither of these have representation on the basis of population, then why should anyone else.

punjabi munda, use your punjabi brain, i never said no representation in UN :)

india has a decent case, just because its over populated is not compelling enough.

adding india in the mix will could cause volatility, especially not good when that region has a lot of nukes.

and indian human rights are not up to say germany, or brazil, this i wont debate, just state to you, you cant really disagree.

all in all brazil have the best overall case, no major disputes, no nukes, less volatile local geography, no expansionist tendencies, globally respected and loved, better human rights, more neutrality as well.

in fact so much going for brazil let them in now!!

Just for the sake of argument, if China decides to use this as an opportunity to break the "cycle of hostility"... what will be the Indian response?

More specifically, how will the politicians (Sonia et al.), the nationalist voters and the Indian media, allow the GoI to respond?

I think any friendly move on China's side will just end up as a regretful loss of face for us, because the GoI cannot respond in a similar manner. Just my opinion.

India is growing at a better rate than Brazil, though Brazil is one of the fastest, but India leads Brazil in growth terms, you need to keep future prospects, based on growth and projections in mind.

.
^^^ The 1.5 billion members of the Islamic world should have representation too.

The have significant geopolitical importance as well, especially in terms of resources.

India can only represent itself, not South Asia or SAARC. And India's geopolitical importance is nowhere near that of the Islamic world.

. . .
its the P5 countries who dont want to share their power as the got it for winning ww2 about 65 years ago and most of the countries now preasent were not even in existance then, the power they have is very discriminatory and the powers should be curtailed instead of adding members
