India seeks China's assistance to revamp Indian Railways

But Chinese are welcome to invest in India on mutual beneficial terms. Their money is green as any other. They have already moved in a big way recently to produce OEM electronics inside India....and have been quite involved in investing into Indian e-commerce, solar and transport sectors too lately. Railways is a good fit and natural addition imo. @Dungeness @dy1022 @rott

It is the over "feelz" backlash against British colonialism (i.e full on insulated socialism), perpetrated by the (desi) elite that replaced the former (gora) elite..... that ruined India economy for nearly half a century....because no heed was paid to Indian cultural norms with regards to historical economic strengths. You need to part with something of yours to gain something back you don't have at the moment....its really free market 101 basics.

Make in India needs much work still, but the start + results is lot better than previous programs attempting it....which did not even have proper sequencing of the MVA investment strategy.

At 150km/h, it is not HSR, I am not sure why India needs China's help to build some regular railway tracks. I am sure India has the tech know-how, maybe what India needs is the project management?

I don't think China can make rails that go backwards or rails people can climb on top for the ride.

I don't know how China will work out with India over rail project. it's much easier to work on friendlier environment and friendlier people such Kenyan.



Good point. They will mock "Made By Chinese" or "Made In China" in the instant of the slightest issue. They can't stand with "Made in China", but can't live without.

I think this is a way to absorb some knowledge from China's rail infrastructure industry, though it would be more limited compared to the African projects due to the limited scope of this project. The general contractor might be from China but some of the sub contractors and workers are likely to be local. Indian engineers and workers would also be interacting with the Chinese engineers and workers. In this process, engineers and workers would be able to experience a Chinese led rail project. Operations would be done by the local company without much assistance from China so I don't think there can be too much management or technology transfers.

The rail projects in Kenya and Ethiopia for example are more wholesale, the top conductors gets trained using Chinese standards and in Mandarin/Chinese, the crew gets Chinese etiquette training, stations and support facilities are built like ones in China, tickets and clothing are like ones found in China, maintenance crew gets training from China. After a 3-4 year period the Chinese trainers leave and all crews would be self sufficient in operations and maintenance. It's the full Chinese industrial package. This is unlikely to be the case for the Indian project.

As per the titile, India seeks China's assistance to revamp Indian Railways and not ask China to build, I think India want China know how and expect China to TOT the knowledge to them.

China should be welcomed to participate in "Make-in-India" initiative and should be treated at par with other countries in the sphere of trade and economy.

Right now we are running the trains at 200 KMPH on our own track. The main problme with us the the scarcity of land. One need to have less than 5% on angle between changing tracks. To narrow the angle , you need to have more land. That is why we have to slow the speed of our train where they changes the track and we are unable to run the trains at high speed through out the journy. One chinese team had came here for the study the high speed train track which India had proposed and china had shown the willingness to bid. We ned to make sure that any new track we laiy down are high track and we must convert all other tracks to the level that they can handle 250 KMPH which should suffice for all practicle purposes.

The other issue is with boggies. They used common shaft for wheel so when they turn, they wheel on opposite side authomatically lifts upward. We need some independent wheel boggies like the one used in Talgo. We have an ambitious goal of making our railway world class by 2025.

Seechewal, along with his team, also made sure that the people around the area were made aware of the ill effects of dumping waste in the river.
