The Governor of Riyadh, Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud meeting the Vice President Hamid Ansari, in New Delhi on April 12, 2010.

India and Saudi Arabia today said that extremism and terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, were inherently destructive and must be fought, irrespective of their source, with all available means.

This came during a meeting between Vice-President M Hamid Ansari and Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz al Saud, the Governor of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, who is on a five-day visit to India.

An official press release from the Ministry of External Affairs said both leaders underscored the excellent state of bilateral relations, marked by historic and strong ties that were a part of their history and culture.

It said the two countries have forged a strategic partnership pursuant to the historic and landmark visits made by King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz to India in 2006 and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

Mr Ansari, a former Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia, said that, given their common interests and concerns, and their capabilities and needs, the two countries were poised for a qualitatively substantive and stronger relationship. He also pointed out that Saudi Arabia figured prominently in India's energy security matrix. The Vice-President welcomed Saudi investments in India's growing infrastructure sector.

Prince Salman stressed the need for increasing economic and business interaction to promote greater mutual investments. He invited Indian business leaders to explore the Saudi market.

He also acknowledged the stellar contribution made by the Indian community in the economic development of Saudi Arabia.

Later in the day, Prince Salman addressed a gathering of the leaders of Indian business and industry and urged them to explore possibilities of stepping up trade and investment in the kingdom. The meeting agreed to exchange more business delegations between the two countries.

Prince Salman also paid a courtesy call on President Pratibha Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan during the day.

I have always said to everyone and still say it to this day that Pak needs to be closer with Iran and Turkey rather than Saudi's.
