India’s New-Old Carrier Goes to Sea

Majorji,

INS Vikramaditya is expected to replace the INS Viraat. This means the Western Command. The Eastern Command has the INS Jalashwa as its flagship. What may happen is once, Vikramaditya joins in, Viraat may be moved to Eastern Command till INS Vikrant comes online.

Indian does not see BD as a threat, nor is India interested in getting in to any tussle with BD. If it were the case, you would see mass deportation and continuous surveillance of Bangladeshis as it happens with Pakistanis in India. The only time the Indian CBG may come near BD or get involved with BD will be during bilateral military exercises of disaster support/relief or during evacuation of Bangladeshis along-with Indians from hotspots round the world.

The Indian CBG has been used for military purposes only towards Pakistan, not Bangladesh. The best case scenario is to have 4 carriers with 2 CBGs operational. Viraat stays in the docks and comes out only during emergencies. 2 CBGs are always deployed.

Also, remember an attack on any CBG, not just Indian, means only 1 thing. Full scale military retaliation. But assume you do want to take down a CBG. Typical CBGs would need to penetrate multiple layers of air defence before being close. This would mean, the opposing army has reconnaisance planes which will not get shot down, satellite capabilities to pinpoint where the carrier is (its like a needle in a hay stack), have network system in place to guide the missile towards the carrier. Typically carrier would not come close to the shore. Assume you have all this, then you need a 1000 km range missile from the shore to take it down. Or you need to send aircraft in harms way to tackle a carrier. Sending a frigate to take down a CBG is like sending a antelope with antlers to take down a pride of lions.

I understand the 1st paragraph is for me.... the rest is for everybody else.... I got your point though. But don't you think its an over estimation!

If the Iraqi air force can penetrate US navy's anti air network and hit two exocet antiship missile in USS Stark (Olever Hazard Perry Class guided missile frigate) then don't you think its rather easy to hit a 40,000 ton football ground with missiles.... Offcourse you will have your subnets, anti-air networks, the AC will be heavily protected (every fleet does).... but dont you think a strategic combined (3D) attack can do much damage to your fleet...

What nonsense is this.............................

Bangladesh wants to challenge IN with its coast guard navy:LOL

thier best frigate BNS bagabundu is comparable to brahmaputra class frigate.............

i will not even mention talwar and shivalik class frigate.

Yeah!! By the time ur Brahmaputra class detects BNS Bangabandhu, Brahmaputra will also find itself under water after being hit by Otomat MK2...

BangBandhu was our friend. If BNS BangBandhu see INS Brahmputra, This will Happen

White one is BNS Bangbandhu

Or may be like this

INS Bahrmaputra looks very much like the one we are going to retire:

An attack on moving objects may need very skillful computing. USA showed worriness when they found a proof that Chinese engineers are near the end of that calculation.

BN will never need blue water ships because its needs are limited to the BoB only. An aircraft carrier is needed for those who want to project their power beyound their shores. Bd will never be such a power.

So, you have put all your eggs in one basket? WE have divided these to many baskets.
This aircraft carrier is not even 10% of our basket ji........
INS Vikrant and IAC 2 will also be coming.........

The ships capacity is limited to 18 Mig-29K and 8 Ka-28 due to its size and originity. Offcourse, IN may choose to equip it with 20 mig-29K and 5 Ka-28. It depends on whats the mission. If it is to control the sea then it may carry upto 24 Mig-29 with no helicopter, if it is to assault then 12 Mig-29 with 10 Ka-28, in typical mission 18 Mig-29K with 8 Ka-28.

The ship will continue using 6 of its existing Harrier jumpjets till they retire.
Actually, they Airwing will have 24 of Mig 29K's( a further 8 were ordered last year specifically for Vkramaditya) and 6 N-LCA(Navy has already ordered these and Vikadi will be the test bed for further improvements)...........
Besides these there will be a AEW heli fleet of 10 Kamovs or Dhruvs

The carrier air wing of Vikrant will be similiar, but it will be composed of only 29 Mig 29 K's. It too will have the same number of helicopters

With the introduction of Vishal it is also possible that INAW will have more fighters than BAF!!!!!

The incident you are talking about, if I am not mistaken, did not involve a CBG. Also, the USN did not respond, though the aircraft was detected. An exocet has a maximum range of 180 kms. If a CBG were involved, any aircraft would need to get past airborne early warning systems. Any unidentified aircraft approaching a CBG at speed will result in aircraft interception beyond the launch zone. The aircraft will probably be detected at round 400 kms by the aircraft carrier radar. But an exocet will have to be really lucky to get down a carrier. The Perry class is 4000 tons. The aircraft carrier is upwards of 30000 tons.

Though, yes, there are always chances that one could get through. My favourite saying, "Allah meherban, gadha pehelwan!"
