Kashmir could have been independent or could have become part of Pakistan

Kashmir is pretty much a lost cause. Only solution is make LoC IB, unless otherwise we can hold
a gun to our head and force the UN+US to conduct a plebiscite(seems far fetched)

You are right, it's just a tit for tat - India at this moment would not want to destabilize Pakistan further. I guess it would be better for Pakistan and its people to give up it's proxy policy on Indian Kashmir. I don't think Pakistan has the economy or the resources to maintain and support insurgency movements both in Indian Kashmir and in Afghanistan - specially after the US dollars and the petro dollars get cut off after 2014. Saudi's will not be financing any of Pakistan's insurgency movements after it starts relations with Iran and the US will not be giving a dime after leaving from Afghanistan.

While Afghanistan can cause serious problems in retaliation and so can India...ideally Pakistan should cool off it's Eastern front if it wants some hold in Afghanistan.

Bhai what you got after proxy war since 1989. Just bomb blasts on local trains, markets, attacks on hotels etc. with innocent lives lost. Why do you wan't same thing that is happening in Pakistan and has been happening in India for more than 2 decades.

Borders haven't changed. India has been content with status quo and focused on much important issues.
