This could be a defining moment in India-Russia relations as by end of this year most of the ongoing defence deals could be concluded. The total value of these defence deals is in the billions of dollars, higher than any deals struck by India with western countries.

An Indian delegation is leaving for Russia to negotiate contracts on some very important defence acquisitions. Government sources told to Sputnik that a high level delegation will leave for Russia in a few days to discuss some strategic purchases for its maritime security.

Sources say that India would like to finalize a deal to lease some submarines from Russia. As the US refused to share technology for building a nuclear powered aircraft carrier, the delegation would also start the discussion for a super-carrier with Russia. Last week, Russia officially offered its latest nuclear aircraft carrier 'Shtorm' to India.

Sources say that, India and Russia concluded two very important negotiations only last week. First, both nations agreed to license-build 200 twin-engine Kamov Ka-226T light multi-role helicopters and secondly, to jointly develop a Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA). It is expected that the Design and Development contract for the FGFA will be signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India in October this year. India’s Defence Ministry expects the project will be completed in next 8-10 years.

Pls use this thread started by you @ashok321. for all Shtorm carrier news..
https://defence.pk/threads/krylov-centre-awaits-order-to-develop-aircraft-carrier-from-india.449170/

So that we can collate all information under one head.

Is there really any substance to this news we are hearing repeatedly?

@PARIKRAMA @Abingdonboy @nair

Well its like this
India wants Yasen sub, Russia says no, take Akula
India wants Russia as consultant for IAC2, Russia says Take Storm concept
India says which reactor will be used, Russia says RITM 200 we will give and fit it there multiple units.
Russia says they will build it and give it to us, India says No, we want in our country.
Russia says participate in PAKFA Naval version and use it in carrier, India says NO

So now its expected that in summit this point will be raised and discussed. If its approved well nice, if not DCNS will anyway come in as i said earlier.

The only issue is India plan was simple
IAC 2 to be 150% size of IAC1 roughly so 65K tonnes over 40k tonnes odd

Now Storm even if downsized will be 85K tonnes or 200% over IAC1.

The challenges in scaling and the whole fleet on board to actually source everything from inside our country willl be mammoth.

Lets see how summit goes on.
@hellfire - you heard more from your friends on this?

@waz @WAJsal
Can you please combine this thread with

We can keep collating information under one thread easily then

.
Many mega deals wit Russia are pending for various type of technical and political irritants. Hopefully this summit they are resolved

.
I think both DCNS and Northrop Grumman would be anticipating IAC 2 contracts right from consultancy stage to design and manufacture and then with orders for some of deck based planes.
Selection of Rafale opens route for Rafale M too and i just get a feeling that France might be ready to offer N power plant for ship as well, should India propose a big enough package.

. .
Good to know that negotiations are finally over on FGFA and Ka-226.....This is more important development than Rafale.

@PARIKRAMA Silence is deafening .... so full steam ahead?

Bargaining is on .. lets see what comes out. We may field 02 x nuke carriers if GoI approves; 02 x conventional and 02 x nuke!!
A little bird who was my batch mate told me some thing slightly differently :)
But lest wait and watch .

So r they saying you have to buy Storm with PAKFA Naval versions as a packed deal because this would not be the first time Russians have used this tactic.
