India, Russia sign deal on military aircraft production | Russia | RIA Novosti

India and Russia on Thursday agreed to set up a joint venture to manufacture a military transport plane.
Under the deal, each party will pay $300.35 million to the JV's charter capital.
Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and United Aircraft Building Company expected to sign a deal in March during Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's visit to New Delhi, but India failed to get the paperwork ready and the signing was delayed.
Manufacturing facilities will be set up both in Russia and in India. A total of 205 planes are to be made, 30% of which may be exported to third countries.
Russia and India signed an intergovernmental agreement on the joint development and manufacturing of the Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) in 2007.
The first MTA is expected to make its maiden flight in 2016-18.

The aircraft could be powered by Russian-made Aviadvigatel PD-14 turbofan engines attached to top mounted wings, and has a T-shaped tail.
The cabin size will be the same as the Ilyushin Il-76 but will be half the length.
The payload will be 18.5 tons of military or civilian cargo, with a range of 2500 km and a speed of 870 km/h
The Indian Air Force plans to acquire 45 MTAs. The Russian market will demand nearly 100 transport aircraft within next 12 years.
There would be scope though for exporting this aircraft, both for civil and military use, and more MTAs could be manufactured.

There are Two Versions of This Aircraft, two totally New Design of this Aircraft will be Underway..... One for Military Purpose and the Other one Civilian Passenger aircraft for Which HAL will take 55% share, and will be Built In the New Facility in HAL Kanpur Transport Aircraft division

do you know when the MRTA talk started with Russia? it is 2003. it took them 8 years to sign the deal.

those chances are very little for this project.

The discussions in defense projects are no way near to the discussions that we have with our friends on which movie to watch in the weekend.

There are "N" number of technical/financial/logistical constraints that have be to be taken care off. All this takes a lot of time.

dude all types of technical, feasibility studies, technical and operational requirements of both indian and russian air forces, how much money and work both will share were completed by 2004/05. but for certain 'reasons' (that are bureaucratic) the project was delayed.
