India Receives Jolt as Bangladesh Supports China's Belt and Road Initiative

Expect some terrorist drama for this. Terrorist drama game to suppress issues. Lately its not working anymore, because of exaggerated use and some exposed ones.

terrorist clap trap work on domestic political level... it has been used to suppress democracy by BAL. However when it comes to geopolitics it won't work. There is only one dead donkey in the field... Pakistan and its supposed sponsorship of islamic radicalism in BD. There is so much that can be flogged and has been overused by BAL already.

No terrorist incident could be attributed to OBOR or to China. Maligning china would take a lot more effort which is beyond the capability of hundtuva turds. The turds would also not be able to force BAL to commit suicide. DumbRaj has zero influence when BD weighs its long term future and relationship with China.

The BRI envisages massive construction of road and railway connecting 65 countries of the world via a singular continuous trade corridor. Many countries have supported this initiative by China, but India views it as a strategic ploy by China to encircle it. While the BRI has already made its way to India's west in Pakistan as well as to the north in the disputed Kashmir region, support of its immediate eastern neighbor Bangladesh has added to its worries. Another eastern neighbor Nepal has already agreed to be part of BRI.
India's weak position will become weaker. India's weak position today is due to BD in the east and Pakistan in the west are denying its forward connections. It cannot project itself either east or west through land. So, India is encircling itself further by not accepting and opposing the OBOR.

What is this obsession with land connectivity ? maritime trade works fine. Global trade went up 100 fold once trade went maritime

In the short or intermediate term relying upon Myanmar for land connectivity is not an option for India or Bangladesh.

Good decision by BD, opting to dump the bad company and preferring connectivity instead of isolation.

Asian land mass is very large. So, in old times the land based silk routes connected China and Central Asia with Europe and other markets. This was replaced with sea routes when the Arab merchants initiated the large scale sea voyages. However, we cannot say land routes are dead, because the large Asian land mass has many countries that do not have connection to seas. Even the central parts of China are without sea ports.

So, the OBOR or new silk road system will benefit those countries that can carry their cargoes to Russia, Europe, middle east and africa. I personally, do not sea much benefit for BD of the westward roads. But, westward routes via China south and eastward routes via Burma will bring benefits to BD.

Saying all those above, I am of this opinion that the newly established routes should be served by railway networks instead of roads to minimize cargo freight.

This conversation has been going on for a long time. Hopefully it materialized this time.

Thanks to Awami league and Hasina, India is much more relevant in Bd otherwise India's presence would be at minimal.

We have to think what is the bottom line for us as a country. Having Sworn enemy India at same table while chatting with our development partners ain't going to cut it.

We have to start it at our home and that is to diffuse Awami cult from mainstream politics.

As I said, India is relevant because of Awami league and Hasina. We as nation came this far not because of India rather because of will of Allah, our hard working people and helping hands from our genuine friends.

Didn't they always support it? Why is this a surprise now

Thanks for telling there is little benefit for Bangladesh.

The whole advantage of the sea route is that you do not have to pay tolls to anybody.
Any route to Europe is through Russia. Any route to Iran Middle East is through Iran. Iran and Russia are not the most economic prudent states around there.

There are 5 landlocked Central Asian Republics that might benefit from the OBOR
The rest of it is smoke and mirrors game played by China

Only OBOR Road which have potential to benefit Bangladesh is something like BCIM or BCM corridor where Bangladesh can trade with Chinese Yunnan province or other south eastern Chinese province without going through Malacca strait.Other road will not be economical for Bangladesh due to the fact that, land transportation of goods are 10 times more costly than marine trade.OBOR's main beneficiary will be China,Russia,Ukraine and Central Asian states.Because, avoiding land route to do trade with China requires them to traverse huge sea water.I think, main purpose of joining BD to this project is not about using those land route to do trade with other countries or even China, but to get large investment and easy credits from China as a partner of their grand scheme.

Why should anyone deny economic growth to their citizens, unless of course they consider cows more important?
True and drinking cow piss before sunrise also important aspect of Hinduism. That will help them attain Mukhti (Heaven).

. . . .
BD cannot connect to OBOR through India as India is not a part of OBOR, so that leaves Myanmar route for BD. And after all the hate these BDians have for Mynamar, Mynamar may not allow any connection to BD.
