Pakistan to Use Russian Mi-35 Helicopters to Fight Drug Trafficking

PARIS, June 18 (RIA Novosti) – Russia plans to supply Pakistan with Mi-35 combat helicopters to fight drug trafficking, head of the Russian delegation at the international defense and security exhibition Eurosatory 2014 Igor Sevastyanov said Wednesday.
“We are currently holding consultations. We are talking about Mi-35 helicopters, we plan to supply them at the request of the Pakistani anti-drug trafficking agency,” Sevastyanov said.

Head of Russia’s Rostec Corporation, a high-tech industrial producer and exporter, Sergei Chemezov earlier stated that supplies of military equipment to Pakistan are to resume, including Mi-35 helicopters. At the same time, a source in Pakistan’s foreign ministry told RIA Novosti that Russia never fully adhered to the embargo on military deliveries to Pakistan.

Indian mass media reported the Indian government felt some concern about Russia’s plans to sell military equipment to its long-time regional rival and will watch the next steps very closely.

At the same time Rostec stated that India has always been and still is Russia’s strategic partner in military cooperation in the region, “however expanding our activities to other counties in South and Southeast Asia has always been on the agenda and Pakistan is no exception.”

Russia has previously exported MI-35 attack helicopters, the export version of the MI-24, including to Iraq. The two countries signed a package deal on military technical cooperation in 2012, worth $4.3 billion.
Thanks , this is the first credible source on the subject .

A good gap filler until the T-129 arrives.

. .

Heavy weight attack helicopter is a gap filler for light weight helicopter????

It's there to shore up another "light weight" helicopter the "Cobra".

The T-129 can perform both roles. Being "light" as you term it doesn't even come into it. o_O

This isn't boxing :cheesy:

Is there any details about quantity & delivery time available or you guys are still building castle over statements?

Good points. But do you know how the Iraqi insurgents were able to shoot them down with LAAG's (light anti aircraft guns) during the current crisis in Iraq??

The Mi-35 is a great asset. We operate them in Brazil.
We use the Mi-35M variant. Locally, we call the helicopters as AH-2 Sabres.

They are deployed in the Amazon region which is a prime location for trans-national narco-terrorists and drug traffickers. They operate in conjunction with Brazil’s Embraer land and ground surveillance jets (R-99/E-99) together with the COIN aircraft Super Tucanos and other local assets.

Regarding the fact that Iraqi insurgents were able to shoot them down, of course the Mi-35 can stand some damage, but isn't unbeatable. Just think about on what they would do to other less capable helos.

In the case you have to move some troops, Mi-35 is the best in the COIN role. If troops movement are not necessary, which seems not to be the case, the Mi-28 is an even better asset, also more expensive, but it definitely can stand against more enemy fire than the Mi-35.

You guys will definitely be satisfied with the Mi-35.

If India provided MANPADs, it's presence in Afghanistan would be completely wiped out. Like brutally and ruthlessly. So don't try to act smart.
I am sure your pilots will face the situation faced by Indian Pilots in Kargil. It's payback time Pakistanis.RAW ZINDABAD !!:chilli::guns:

Finally Russians find out that India was playing them for so long. India was taking advantage of Russia's sore relations with USA & in return India had nothing to offer.

Russia have chosen Pakistan smartly...they can now get access to Arabian Sea & develop their Siberian & Central Russian region via Gwadar port of Pakistan which is on the mouth of strait of Hormuz. Plus they can develop their ties with Muslim world too.
