BEIJING:

India has planned to recruit and deployed another 100,000 troops along the disputed borders with China and the Chinese southwestern Tibet. The troop increase will come over the next five years, as part of a $13 billion modernisation programme that will mark the largest expansion of the Indian army throughout the sub-continental country’s 60-year history, a Chinese scholar has reported in state media.

Earlier this month, New Delhi gave the green light for the Indian military to deploy Brahmos cruise missiles south of Tibet in India’s first tactical missile deployment targeting China, according to the Indian media.

“India needs pause when driving East,” an article by Li Hongmei said. India is now afoot to give a major impetus to its ‘Look East’ policy, when it kicked start a flurry of diplomatic activities with Southeast Asian countries in the last two months, and, of late, with Japan.

India and Vietnam agreed in September to jointly explore oil resources in the South China Sea. Early in October, India and Afghanistan declared the establishment of strategic and cooperative partnership between them. Recently, India signed defence pacts respectively with China’s neighbouring Vietnam and Myanmar.

The intensification of defence cooperation will also be high on the agenda of India, as it expects China’s small neighbours would rather look to it to balance what is said China’s increased assertiveness in the region, and view it as an increasingly important player in evolving an “inclusive regional architecture” in Asia.

That also explains why New Delhi is interested in selling to Vietnam the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile, an Indo-Russian joint venture. India has already been assisting Hanoi in bolstering its naval and air force capabilities. Vietnam has allowed India access to the Nha Trang Port, which is situated close to the strategic Cam Ranh Bay.

Ontopic : Excellent move !

Now with the man power taken care of and the airfields also being upgraded rapidly only the arty part needs to be upgraded.

Judging from the military expansionism from New Deli, we may need to enhance our force in Xizang for a little bit.

There are currently about 20,000 Chinese ground troops in Tibet, not including air force, border police and militia. With the new railway, we can probably moved another 50,000 into the region within a week. Still, Indian troops on the other side is outnumbering us 2 to 1.

I think we need to beef up the air force and militia in the region a little bit, just in case India attempts any misadventure.

Any source for this figure?

Information are searchable through Chinese internet.

52nd Mountain Warfare bridgade has about 5000 men. There are two border defence regiments, one in A-Li and one in Eastern Tibet about 2000 men each. There is a central logistic depot with about 3000 men near Lhasa. Recently they put an mechanized division into Tibet, so that boosts total ground troops to about 20,000 men.

The air force has an air division and an air defence bridgade, totalling 4000 men. Armed police has a regional group also about 4000 men. I don't know the militia number, probably around 10,000.

However, all these are deployed in Tibet alone. If you count provinces bordering Tibet, then there are about 300,000 ground troops in total.

Xizang is about half the size of India. If you count all the adjacent provinces together, it is larger than India.

india is more than welcomed to deploy even 1 million more.

The undisputed truths here are:

1. our economy is almost 4 times as big as india's
2. our military budget is about 4 times as big as india's
3. our land size is about 3 times as big as india's

a wise india will never want to be our economy, we are happy to see a stupid india sitting next to us doing this childish thing
