Yes, that' why I say it's non sense to compare them, Hong Kong was an unequal treaty, actually the treaty was to cede Hong Kong to UK, lease was only for New Territory, Sri Lanka has full control of their port while China back then lost all sovereinty.

Back to the time when China per capita wise was poorer than Pakistan in the early 1980's, we pulled all stops trying to get investments and loans from every country and organization, we never thought foreign loans and investments were a bad thing, how come today when China provides them , suddenly they become all bad and evil?

Bro you guys are hardworking, systematic, law abiding people. Most nations in our region are not. You do investment here with good intentions. But our leaders have none of that.
In few years you will find most of these investments were bad debts like that mega port in Sri Lanka or that giga bridge in Maldives. All funded by China but now a foreign liability.
I don't hate China or Chinese people. Just don't like their current policies. Keep your investments in East Asian or Western regions. Don't waste them here. An honest suggestion.
