India offers gas export to Pakistan

All thanks to Ghaddari & Co crooks. Pakistan has enough proven and discovered gas reserves for another 35 years which can be brought to the grid for as less as $4 per btu by local companies.

We can only hope tat the next government will be less corrupt and more focused on development.

I think Pakistan should go for it. Make a deal for Lahore only and divert our own gas to other area's. That way we won't be too dependant on India and will benefit from the offer. After all 25km pipeline is a minor investment and can be completed in months.

and that terrain is also easy to work with geographically as well no security threats

A viable option for Pakistan to ponder over. The benefits would include no sanctions and low costs of construction and maintenance.I guess the real bone of contention would the cost of the gas being pumped.India wouldn't be able to offer as low rates as the other contenders.

Pakistan need to tax all Indian businessmen as it tax Pakistani businessmen and the whole process need to be transparent and auditable!

Moreover, Pakistan shall not pay more to Indian gas as it Pay to Pakistani gas!

That was, India offers electricity export to Pakistan

@ topic

India offers gas export to Pakistan? what a joke this is? why are they planning to import gas from Iran and Tajikistan then? If India can buy gas from these countries, we can also buy the gas from these countries. Where are they going to get the Gas to export it to Pakistan?

Typical Times of India article, that is why I never believe in that newspaper. They did not even care to write how much of Gas India can afford to export it to Pakistan.

don't blame the newspaper , this is because of your lack of knowledge. You can only export the gas but it need to be converted i LNG forms which are done in refineries. Which India has extra capacity.

Its a good move by India to improve relations. Pakistan should use the extended hand of friendship for its own benefit. I personally see no negatives in this. One should not hesitate to trade with someone even considered as an enemy. CBM (confidence building measures) are a way to solve relationship problems, to decrease the amount of trust deficit, move it to neutral territory and eventually to positive territory. Not having mutual trade between the two nations are lost opportunity costs for both nations.

That won't be the point here. Even if Pakistanis agree, how will they manage to secure the pipelines off blasts? Most of the radicals would use this as a weapon.

Gujrat is also planning LNG terminal at pipavav..so in coming years we can export more LNG :)

Gujarat plans LNG terminal at Pipavav port - Economic Times

Gujarat plans to set up its fourth liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the Pipavav port soon besides commissioning the 5-MT capacity greenfield LNG terminal at Mundra by 2015-16, the state's principal secretary for energy, DJ Pandian, said.

"We want one more LNG terminal at Pipavav port, which will have 2.5 MT to 5 MT capacity. Many companies have expressed interest in the project," Pandian told ET. The state already has terminals at Dahej and Hazira and a third one is coming up in Mundra.

"Companies like Torrent, BPCL and HPCL are interested in Pipavav project. The project would be launched soon," Pandian said.

He said many companies were interested in picking up 25% equity stake in Rs 3,500 crore Mundra LNG terminal project. "A strategic partner would be inducted by 2013," he said.

GSPC, owned by Gujarat government, wants to develop the project before inducting a new partner, a company official said. "We will invest Rs 60-100 crore in next 6-12 months before inducting a new partner," said the official who did not wish to be named. GSPC has 50% equity stake in the terminal and Adani group holds 25%. Essar group, which initially held 25% stake in the project, exited the venture.

The company plans to source gas from Australia and Egypt for the Mundra terminal. Pandian said Gujarat had emerged as LNG hub of the country and has appetite for new capacities.

Hazira and Dahej terminals have combine capacity of over 13 MT and there is a scope for two more terminals, he said.

The Saumitra Chaudhuri committee report estimates that the domestic gas output would reach to 199 million metric standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) by 2016-17, but demand would outstrip supply.

Its a nice offer, must be appreciated.... But I don't think we need to import gas from India not for the reason that it will be coming from India but for the reason that we must reduce our dependence on natural gas.. Most prolly we'll be generating electricity from it or we'll be supplying it industries which in turn will also be generating electricity... Its not a good idea, Pakistan must shift to cheaper sources like hydel, coal etc..

and what infrastructure you have in place for this and in how many days will it be financed and ready to produce the quotas you desperately need NOW! You going to continue to either pay almost 3 x times more or not have poor level for the next few years further plunging that national GDP, defaulting on loans, depriving people amenities ?

India would love that, you are paying 3x times more to get that gas from others than from India. Sure, pay India same you pay to buy it elsewhere.

The pipeline is going to be constructed in Punjab province which is very safe. Probability of a blast or any disruption is almost close to nil, but lets for arguments sake a terrorist does manage to blow a part of the pipeline, this is exactly what the maintenance crew is for. They will have the pipeline repaired and running in a matter of hours.

Pakistan and India need to come out of this security oriented mindset and set their minds towards trade and economic prosperity. Trade and not nukes are the key to deterrence between India and Pakistan.

OMG- a think tank who truly deserves the title! :thank_you2:

We should look how Gazprom transport gas through different countries......Even they turned the tap :(

Good for bilateral relations. More cooperation is expected in more fields which are mutually beneficial.

India itself wants to import gas from Iran via IPI or from Turkemanistan via TAPI yet thinks of us as a bunch of fools to purchase gas from an already energy and gas starved country which can turn the tap off anything..huh!

Bozo , you are producing enough gas , which could be an alternative for gas imports.. good going.

I reckon you are not well familiar with the exact condition of gas shortage in Pakistan.. Well, the demand is increasing every year, deficit is getting bigger every day.. Pakistan have already consumed half of its gas reservoirs, it is quite possible that we consume all of our gas sooner than we expect if we keep consuming it with the pace we are consuming it right now. So unless you dedicate all of your gas to us we simply cannot be helped.. Now only a fool would not think about shifting to other sources of energy which are much more viable and long lasting than the one we are discussing..

Yeah we need short term plans to overcome the damage which has been done to our economy.. Not necessarily every plan depends on natural gas, even if it depends, can you guarantee this project will be materialized within couple of years?

We rather need to enhance our already installed capacity (electricity) and meanwhile start long term projects..
