Nobody said that but India is far behind in actually producing weapons. Admitting it won't kill you.

We are certainly not the single power like America is. That is why we spend tons of time and money catching up.

Nope but our leadership have the force of political will and you are still looking for a government with a spine. That more than any tech lead is what's important.

Well, for starters China's defense budget is roughly $70 billion and its roughly 1.4% of the GDP. And its $37 billion which is roughly 2.6% of our GDP. So without increasing our GDP, matching China on defense expenditure won't be fruitful. We cannot neglect our other responsibilities in place of defense expenditure. So our requirements should be strategically placed other than satisfying the creed of some :azn:
And for all the warmongers here, there's no chance for war between India and China....so just chill, they can't afford to jeopardize their economic growth at the moment.
And in case of war, we have the capability to inflict substantial damage to Chinese infrastructure and economy. It won't be one sided

Tech wise your biggest problem is that you buy everything.

Not true during the 90's while US sanctions were in place we had no choice but to develop indigenous tech, dual use items were denied to us unlike China.

Take MMRCA contract for example, the total contract is for about $10 billion, but that amount won't be paid in a single year, that amount will be divided and paid in about 5-6 (if not more) years. So considering our GDP growth and % of defense expenditure, its not a problem.

No one is saying you can't afford it.

The main thing is that 37 bn $ is good but we buy from other countries so we get less for our money as profits of other country is also included in there products if ee start making things we will get more for our money
and yes we are behind china but slowly we can bridge the gap in years to come

Actually admitting this again will do nothing but inflate your already over-streched egos. It is widely acknowledged both by the Indian people and the government that China is ahead of us (not as much as you think but still). Yet I see threads like this every other day trying to put forth this point in a shamelessly taunting fashion. The title of this thread is a classic example.

Have fun.

there shud be separate budget of 10-15 billion dollars for research and develoment..it will definitely give fruits

To head off anyone who objects by saying "oh but we get partial or even full ToT"

Let's look at this way. Two students are taking a physics or math test, they both have a problem set to study from. One student spends hours and hours on it, trying and failing and trying and failing, until he finally understands the problems. The other student tries the problems, can't get it right, tries again, still wrong then he looks at the answers on the back of the book, and says to himself "oh yeah that's what I was going to do the next try", he then finishes the rest of the problem set like this.

The two students take the exam. Who do you think is better prepared if the prof asks something new on the exam. Well indigenous research and ToT are the same way.

I can see lot of false ego inside u....
