It's not possible. Both are 30 yr old design, even latest versian of F -15 is not worth to buy in IAF now. SU-30 is sufficent to cover that role. we need MRCA quick. If babus in south block allows....

India grounds MiG-27 fleet for investigation after crash

The Indian Air Force has grounded its entire fleet of Russian-made MiG-27 aircraft for checks after a fatal crash in eastern India killed an ace pilot last week, Indian media reported on Wednesday.

Indian officials cite an engine problem as the most likely reason for the accident that occurred on February 16 near Siliguri in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal.

The IAF has grounded the entire fleet of over 150 MiG-27 ground attack fighters for technical inspection.

Last year, the aircraft completed an indigenous upgrade program executed by a state-owned military organization.

"The MiG-27 aircraft are not flying till the checks ordered on the fleet are completed," a senior IAF officer told India's Daily News & Analysis.

India lost two MiG-27 jets last year, and a total of about 12 since 2001, due to crashes attributed largely to defects in the aircraft's engines.

Accidents involving Soviet-designed MiG-27 fighter jets, known as the Bahadhur (Brave) in the IAF, which were produced in India under license and have been used for several decades by the Indian Air Force, are frequent in the country.

Recent crashes remove MiG-27 from Indian Air Force exercises

Mikoyan MiG-27 bombers have been cancelled from participation at the Indian Air Force's largest exercises, Vayushakti, slated for February 28, due to a string of air crashes in recent days, an Indian AF official told Interfax on Tuesday.

"The decision was made by the command after studying the preliminary results of the inquiry into the Mig-27 crash near the Hashimara Air Base, which hosts a squadron of fighter aircraft, in the state of West Bengal in the country's east on February 16," the AF official said.

According to the ground services' reports, several minutes after the plane took off the crew commander reported a fire in the engine, then communication with him was lost, and the MiG-27 crashed not far from the base. The pilot, who was considered one of the most experienced in the Indian Air Force, did not survive.

According to official data, the Indian AF have lost 12 MiG-27s since January 2001. In 2009, two MiG-27 crashed: one near the town of Jodhpur in the state of Rajasthan in May, and the other in New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal in October. In both cases, the pilots managed to eject. All in all, the Indian Air Forces lost eleven aircraft of various brands in similar circumstances in 2009.

The MiG aircraft which fell down on February 16 had a damaged turbine blade, which often happens when a foreign object gets inside, according to military experts' reports.

Presently, around 100 MiG-27 aircraft are in the service of the Indian Air Force, all they have been temporarily cancelled from flights until the inquiry is complete.

Engine Trouble may put Mig-27 for early retirement

Indian Air force is considering retiring major fleet of mig-27 by 2015, as per reports almost half the squadrons strength will be “stood down” by 2015 .Fatal accident which have taken place recently all has been attributed to defects of R-29 engines, initial air force investigation has found major flaw in fourth line at the overhaul stage which is done by Hindustan Aeronautics limited.

Poor serviceability and design defects had forced IAF to ground all Mig-27 Squadrons after a Squadron leader was killed in February crash, sudden loss of power in low pressure turbine blades of the aircraft was reason behind the crash.

Mig-27 along with Jaguar aircraft still forms a major chuck of Strike fleet of Indian Air force; recently around 40 aircrafts were upgraded to Darin-II standards which sport a new navigation-and-attack avionics package, electronic warfare suite developed by the state-owned Defence Research & Development Organisation.

Post your link/source Sri Lankan.

The idea is completely BS and not match with facts. Why IAF will consider F-15 SE when we have better solution like Rafale? Mig-27 can be replaced by Su-35 or Rafale but not SE.Mig-27 is a ground attack fighter while F-15 is a air superiority fighter like Mig-29.
