You're one of the smarter ones....I thought you knew the Soviets had an eye on Pakistan all along. Indeed, once they consolidated power in Afg, they fully intended to support India in dismantling Pakistan. Pakistan was battling the USSR for its own survival.

So Soviet bases all along our Western flank and india on our east....somehow this would be a safe place for Pakistan to exist? As we know, Russians have no qualms about assisting barrel bombing dictators in massacring their own people - you think they wouldn't green light India in invading Pakistan?

There is just no way Pakistan would have survived as anything more than a Soviet puppet and worst case scenario, it would have been overrun by India while the Soviets offered full support from the west and the Indian ocean.
