India looks likely to scrap multi-calibre rifle contest

why not get the best of both worlds and adapt to the 6.5 Grendel.

It just buy SCAR:

It'll be 6.8mm.

ARDE is currently designing the 6.8mm barrel for MCIWS.
6.8 is crap IMO :agree:

the Grendel has more knockdown power and better ballistics.

they want a multi caliber rifle for difference scenarios. 7.62x51 only meets only one part of that, but a intermediate round like the Grendel meets both.

just like we are looking for a intermediate between 7.62x51 and .50 BMG like the 338 Norma Magnum

I don't think M-16 or Ace are multi calib guns?

.
Any idea what they are?? And why have local as well as foreign companies failed? Who makes these demands??

I don't know the exact requirements, but it includes functioning in Cold (Siachin), hot and sandy (Thar) ,Marshy and salty conditions, in short a mix of extreme conditions only a few other countries have.

You can look into this PDF for some more idea:

http://indianarmy.nic.in/writereaddata/RFI/193/rfipmo_03dec10.pdf

and INSAS passed them?

The exact trials these multi-cal rifles went through, probably not. INSAS was selected in response to a different set of requirements than those for the mult-cal rifles. However, INSAS rifles and its variants have survived in challenging conditions of India successfully, albeit with some issues.

:lol:Sounds to me like you're describing the AK5c:

Combat proven, reliable in all climates (proven through actual combat in Afghanistan), supports a wide array of attachments including sights and grenade launchers, badas* - what more could one ask for in a rifle?

I'm only joking of course (though it fits the requirements), I'd never pitch Swedish gear - no Norwegian would ever do that, it cuts into our business:partay:.

Still, rifles already exist with those capabilities and the AK5c is one of them.

you can switch the upper on a M16-M4 fairly easily, and I mean faze out the 5.56 in favor of 6.5 Grendel. instead of switching between 5.56 and 7.62.

and here is .50 Beowulf. good caliber for checkpoint duty.

Hello my friend:-),

Ak-5C is not a Multi-Cal rifle AFAIK, and the guns in question are Multi-Cal rifles.

Afghanistan is not Sachin.

Note for the 6.5 round, it seems it won't work until its accessible ammunition ie in bulk production around the world. 5.56,7.62 are all over the world so options are open ontop of that the 6.8 round is perfect round but having too much stopping power is not ideal hence why NATO uses 5.56 in the first place. Perhaps not ideal against terrorists in a close environment but more than enough.
I don't see why nit picking is an option. A bullet is bullet and when some one gets hit by one, it causes serious injury especially assault rifle rounds.

.
Why did they do that?

Cost.

Not much transfer of technology.

Most of the developed world with a ahitload of money use these in extreme conditions and have exported them to several nations with success...

Meanwhile you are also using "failed foriegn guns"...

As for INSAS... Yeah an ugly (not known do things like ergonomics),semi auto (prone to jamming) and badly manufactured is a success compared to "failed" guns like M-16,C-805,ACE,B-160..

Yet this ugly ,semi auto ,prone to jamming and badly manufactured INSAS was enough to fcuk up Pakistanis in Kargil . ...

There is no doubt on that. Hindus in General but lesser so in UP and other states with their idiotic 5000 head weddings.
UP Muslims are total idiots when it comes to money generally and spend on needlessly lavish stuff. They will buy and spend where the Muslim in the south might save.

However, even within Muslims and Hindus there are the Gujratis.. they are natural businessmen and misers to their death bed.
So considering a Gujarati is right now in charge of India.. money making is unstoppable.

I always asked my Gujju friends, what are you going to do with all this wealth that you refuse to spend even on yourself? I mean, are you going to burn it when you die?
