According to Population Reference Bureau by 2050 India will have 17.4 billion people and China will have 14.3 billion, which makes Chinese population roughly 80% that of India.

So what I said still stands. By 2050 India may have a bigger economy but China will have a lot less people living in a far larger country.

I think you put the decimal points in the wrong spot for the population projections.

Also, it is misleading to think China is better off than India because it has more land. Most of China's land is wasteland, especially in the West. If I remember correctly, over half of India's land is arable, compared to only 10% of China's land. This means that is terms of population per sq. km of arable land, China has a higher population density than India.

This statistic is also called "real population density". Take a look:

India has more arable land than China. Thus, we are able to support a larger population.

. .
This is correct. It is the arable and livable land that matters and not places like China's west or Siberia.

The size of arable land in India and China are roughly comparable. So by 2050 we'll have more arable land per capita. And if we look past the problem of food, even non-arable land could have industrial, residential and recreational uses. The drive to develop the Western regions will bear fruit not only in term of raising local income but also lessen the population burden of the coastal and central regions.

This is not to mention China's lead in agricultural technology and farming practices, which produces twice the amount of rice per hectare.

That doesn't change the fundamental fact that India's potential food production capacity is higher than China's. Wastelands have a number of uses but supporting a large population is not one of them.

Currently, India has considerably more arable land per capita than China. Over time that may change, considering the relative population growth rates of the two countries. But with India's population growth rate rapidly declining and farm practices/technology improving, it's diffcult to tell. We'll just have to wait and see.

You don't seem to understand per capita do you. They have similar arable land with similar populations making the per capita arable land shockingly also very similar.

P.S. You can have all the arable land you want but if you don't use it correctly it amounts to jack squat.

we produce 4 times as much grain with similar land

India currently has 300 million less people than China with several hundred thousand more sq. km of arable land.

This means that India currently has a lot more arable land per capita. Is this so hard to understand?

If agricultural practices and technology improves we can easily support a larger population than China.

Good job manipulating the facts to suit your perceptions

Here is another link to the same "source" that you used.

So much for "China produces 4 times more food than India"

Also notice that, according to your source, India's production of food is increasing at a faster rate than China's.

Then it's puzzling why there are so many malnourished kids in India.

Also, India produces 4 times as many mangoes as China.

This obviously means China's land is not used properly.

Shame on China and its obsolete agricultural practices

Hope you can see that mangos and staple crops like grains are different.

India has been self sufficient and exporting surplus for a few decades now. Mal nourishment is due to corruption and inefficiency in delivery. We have tonnes and tonnes of food grains on one side and poor people starving on the other.

This article in BBC was just so depressing.

Corruption? Inefficiency? Sounds like a government backed genocide. India is suffering from an artificial famine imposed by the New Delhi regime then. By Western standards, if it involves the government, and people starve, it's a genocide. That's the standard they use for North Korea, Russia, China, etc. Even worse though, is India actually producing enough. North Korea has an excuse. They just can't farm. India does not.
