I dont think its about religion. Bd has long tradition of distinct cuisine and we should do something to introduce those in west instead always keep focusing same usual staff.

Name me some authentic dishes that has no connection to Muslim rulers in Bengal?

All roots on the subcontinent and it's indigenous populace finally reach Dharmic bedrock.

It has connection of course but those days are long gone. I am saying bangladesh need to re brand it self as a country not keep saying indian food or we are so close to indian ppl bla bla. There are certain section in our society obsessed with indian culture. Will even post fb comments in hindi which they think is some sort of "cool". Girls or women in general are obsessed with indian cloths and Bollywood.

No it's not. At least not the one we have. There is a legend associated with the Bakarkhani also, it's a love story between Baker and Khani Begum.

And don't listen to the razakar dalal, everything is from his baper desh according to him. The Bakarkhani that is found in Dhaka (only in old town) is not sweet, it's texture is between a bread and biscuit, cooked in a deep clay oven. Nowadays because of it's extreme popularity some of the makers came up with sweet variety. The original one is not sweet. Photo of the original ones here.

Very true, even amongst the Bangladeshis there are subtle variations. The ones closer to our North East in Sylhet have certain mongoloid features and their language and culture differs from the rest.

I lived most of my life in Narinda, Tikatuli and Laxmibazar. I grew up eating those foods, never, not a single time in my entire life did I hear anybody in Dhaka saying those are Indian foods.

I didn't mention anything about "hearing" or someone saying that it is Indian food. What I am saying is that you take a stroll and walk past the many mediocre food outlets that serve "Khashir Mangsho" or "Chap/Biriyani" whatever, they're signboards tell me Indian food. Why should I come to BD and be served Indian food?

The shopping mall next to Jamuna Future Park, go in there and count the food outlets upstairs that say "Indian Food" as signage.

It's embarrassing.

But Bakarkhani is an Indian bread bro, there may be some variants that are unique to your country. The version found in my place is very different to your varieties and we consume it as our evening snacks once in a while.

Bakharkhani isn't an Indian bread. It originated from Old Dhaka/Kashmir region, most probably Old Dhaka.

In BD people call local biryani Indian food? Bakar khani Indian food? Where did you get that from? I grew up all my life in the old town, centre of biryani and bakar khani, never ever heard people calling them Indian food.

A restaurant that serves Hajjir Biriyani or Fakruddin Biriyani, why do they still brand that place as Indian food? You'll see "Indian Food" signage's all over BD but not once will you see "Bangali Food". BS.

Not necessarily, there are other variations too like Old Delhi or Dhaka style.

But since you are a Sylheti you must know that the Sylheti bakarkhani is very different to the other varieties, it is like a sweetened soft bread unlike the cookie/pastry form of other kinds. And that's the version popular in Assam, both regions being closely related in terms of cuisine.

Bakharkhani has always been a Old Dhaka delicacy enjoyed by aristocrats, later on other variants unfolded.

Those dishes are are not Indian. They are Mughali dishes brought to Hindustan by Muslim invaders. Indian are vegekoor. They are the one copying some of our dishes.

In London, Syloti stared restaurant business since British time as Indian restaurant. Unfortunately, they didn’t rebrand it as Pakistani or Bangladeshi after break up of British India.

Bhai, a lot of them are british phenomenons and were invented in the UK. We should be proud of our Sylheti food it is unlike anything else in the subcontinent.

Yes its sucks. I have been called indian many times already in canada it's just annoying. I wish ppl stop doing that here. Even indian ppl think I am indian and in USA they think I am Mexican lol.

Straight after 1971 what should have happened is to create a distinct identity, just like the Paks did. Right now a foreigner will probably say Bangladesh is a city in India ( btw I've heard numerous times). We failed to weave and sew a distinct identity that could differentiate us from West Bengal, or India. Our culture right now is broadly defined.

It's painful to hear "Oh is that in India", all we are doing is being an extension of India in every aspect. There needs to be a selling point & we don't have it.

I think BD Muslim organizations should work in this regard to build Muslim characters on ground level, instead of only appearing in occasional waz mehfils. Muslim women have created an identity for themselves in the form of Hijab. But Muslim men are lacking identity. Only they appear in occasional religious festivals. BD men need some distinct identity like Khans or Malays. I think old Dhaka, Sylhet and Chatga can contribute in this regard. And BD people should stop promoting Rickshawalas and Lungi culture. If they continue to do so their infrastructure will always look like this. If they think broad, they will look like this.

Big shopping centers and other places in Dhaka have restaurants of different cuisines. There are also many restaurants in Dhaka serving Chinese or thai food, so what?

Biryani, kebab etc in Dhaka and particularly old town don't have signboards saying Indian food.

The government of India has initiated a new scheme for providing medical treatment to 100 Muktijoddha patients every year.




The High Commission of India said under the initiative the freedom fighter patients will be provided free medical treatment in Indian Armed Forces hospitals.

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has partnered with Indian High Commission to select deserving patients covering all districts of Bangladesh.

This year also, 100 Mukti joddhas will be selected and given treatment in Indian Armed Forces Hospitals.

The ministry has posted an advertisement on their official website www.molwa.gov.bd.

Applicants are advised to visit the website and submit their application to the civil surgeon’s office in their respective district as per the prescribed application format before Aug 22.

The Indian army fought along with Bangladeshi freedom fighters in 1971 war of independence from Pakistan.
