I think a fair assumption would be that the Pak-Fa and FGFA would be like what the F-22 and F-35 are in the USAF. What is incredible is that even though the FGFA is a double seater and the Pak-Fa is a single seater, the FGFA will weigh around 17 tons and the Pak-Fa will weigh around 22 tons.

Though F35 has tech derived from F22, Its more of a "Economical" Package and has differnet systems to make it cheap.
F22=$150 Million
F35=$90 Million.

what i mean is Both are differnet Machines started from scratch.

Coming to FGFA vs PAKFA
As per the reports, FGFA will differ just like Su30MK differs from SuMKI.

So FGFA will be 80-90% Sameas PAK FA, but may differ in :

#1. Avionics
#2. Dual Seat ( a separate Interface will need to be designed for the second pilot/navigator)
#3. Softwares
#4. Use of Composites, which HAL has mastered by the LCA project.
#5. Israeli/French weapons Compatibility ( May Be )

The R&D for the two designs was sponsored by the Soviet government under the same project and within the same organizations. However, once the technology was matured, two companies, Sukhoi and Mikhoyan, took the same basic R&D and went separate ways, with Sukhoi going for a full-on air-superiority platform in the Su-27 (like the F-15) and Mikhoyan going for a smaller multirole platform (like an F-16 on steroids).

India operates variants of both platforms, and realizes the utility of both aircraft. I expect the PAK-FA and the FGFA to follow the same concept but a different development process (incremental instead of parallel). That said, as said above, any aircraft that flies this year or next will be a Technology Demonstrator. Technically speaking, you can call it a "concept prototype", but not the prototype. In fact, if most of you knew the meaning of an early prototype versus a late one in a project such as this, you would pray for a later one. Just read up on the Engineering of the F-22 Raptor, you'll know what I'm talking about.

there is actually a mig program already parallel to the pakfa... the fgfa is going to be a variant of the pakfa, sort of like the mki...and mass production it expected by 2015-2017, according to sukhoi chief...

i dont know if the pakfa is going to be as good as the f-22 just yet... remember how long it took the su-27 to overtake the f-15 in superiority... the aircraft usually needs time to be perfected...

No you are wrong. India never wanted a single engine FGFA...they always wanted a twin seater FGFA.
And a single engine fighter can't be a twin seater?

The Indians also wanted to be a part of the Mig LFI programme. Which was denied. Hence the MCA project got off the drawing board.

Mate you mixing up some things here!

The LFI (Lyogkiy Frontovoy Istrebitel, Light Frontline Fighter) project was intended to develop a lightweight fighter with respectable air-to-ground capabilities. Yakovlev proposed the Yak-43, an upgraded Yak-41 with a stealthier design and more powerful engines. After neglecting the MFI competition, Sukhoi decided to submit a design for the LFI called the S-37 (unrelated to the heavyweight Forward-swept wing fighter). This S-37 resembled the Gripen in that it had canard foreplanes, a delta wing and one engine. Mikoyan entered the MiG izdeje 33 design, which bore a resemblance to the F-16. MiG could not afford to develop both the MFI and LFI, so their LFI entry was eventually withdrawn.

As you can see, it is a single engine, light weight fighter and has nothing to do with the twin engine, medium weight concept of MCA.
MCA is just a 5. gen concept of HAL and not a project of Mod, or IAF so far and as long as LCA is still under development, it is pretty doubtful that MCA development starts soon.

Anyway, the point remains that there will be only a twin engine, single seat Pak Fa and a twin engine, twin seat FGFA and no 3rd version for exports.

It's really interesting to read these posts from several years ago where people are projecting (possibly whimsically) the development/induction of platforms. Somethings have surely developed from back then and others are...well pretty much where they started.
