India joins majority to vote against US move on Jerusalem

India had no choice, they have 200 million Muslims, if they voted for Israel their country would be torn apart.

If Modi and the Hinutva brigade had their way, they would be helping Israel to build settlements in East Jerusalem.

India always wanted a two state solution. It is based on this stance the voting is done. You have no idea about India.

Remember we accepted an embassy of North Korea even though US raised questions. On the other hand china is preparing to back stab North Korea at the time of crisis.

India aside, I was really surprised at Mexico abstaining instead of supporting the resolution, given how Trump keeps insulting them over and over again. It would've been a nice "fvck you too" in response to Trump's "bad hombres", "they send us their rapists" speeches and of course The Wall.

It's a shame mighty Mexicans didn't have the courage of tiny Costa Ricans or Nicaraguans.

I'm more surprised about Guatemala and Honduras voting with the US, Both countries were wrecked by US hegemonic interventions in the 70's and 80's.. But then again they well may be the definition of "Banana republics"

Alright so India just spat in Israel's face, why exactly?

Technically and in diplomatic sense, It was the US that got spat upon, Israel was the subject matter but the resolution was against the US

Right. Mexico on the other hand isn't supposed to be a banana republic: 127 million population. G20 major world economy. Strong Hispanic community/lobby in the US... Yet they keep tolerating Trump's insults.

But they're also 1/3rd of NAFTA, Diplomacy and real politik doesn't work the way we simply assume they would, There are many other interests involved.. Mexico didn't vote unlike Honduras and Guatemala, So imo Mexico played with a straight bat, So they did whats best in their interest without doing the wrong thing

Fair enough. But fortunes are made and lost all the time. Sometimes history judges nations by whether or not they've done the honorable thing when there was grave injustice in the world.

Mexico happens to suffer from extreme income inequality, by the way. Only the top 1-2% actually benefit from NAFTA.

Do you realize the real spineless culprit in all this is Canada, For all the neo liberal theatrics of Trudeau Just like how his father, And all the Ohh lala Oh Canada the land of good people !! Blah blah blah, When push comes to shove they will always remain the lap dog of the US and it's policies

Indians have an independent foreign policy and they are indeed ingenious when it comes to defending their long term interest. A non-binding vote in UN GA dooes NOT matter much to a country the size of India.

The indians are very shrewd actually. Dare I say that they are actually better in diplomacy than the chinese. The chinese have a lot to learn from india in terms of exercising influence in other countries, political sabotage, espionage etc etc.

The Muslims in India are very divided, ignorant of their religion, illiterate and poor. SO they do NOT matter much for consideration by the Indian political elites. If indian Muslims were united, educated and religiously aware, they would have had huge influence on Indian politics even if they were 1 million. Another thing that assures power to Indian Hindutvadi majority, is the Indian FPTP electoral system. SO NO matter the number, Minorities whether dalit, christian or Muslim will never have that much of an influence on Indian strategic decision making.

I have to admit again that Indian establishment and policy makers are intelligent & sharp .

they are master sailing on two vessels at a time .

The did it because of Iran - that's the only reason. Most of their population consists of genocidal maniacs much like the Israelis and public opinion is still way towards the Israelis than the Palestinians.

60% indians dont even know where israel or palestine are and the issues b/w them.

All those congratulating India, it doesn't mean anything to us, For us, its not Arab or Israeli conflict ,we will do what we think its best for us. Its just small lollipop throws to Arab countries who are making beeline to India for last couple of weeks to asking India to condemn US move.

Personally, i think UN has no business interfering in US move, it was Trump's policy matter, it wont have any effect on International status of Jerusalem. But that my personal opinion.
