India is likely to Take Delivery of K-152 Nerpa by June 2010

I always have a feeling, there is some fireign hand working behind all these delays. To be very honest even Americans think like that too about Indian delays;).

well, the delays are because India is not greasing enough. If it up the price, it would expediate things.

I hope we reflect upon just how much our friendship with Russia has delievered to us. And I hope we contribute our part. We maybe economically rising and I guess as a large industrial power, logic will take us increasingly away from russia in terms of arms purchases but areas like foreign policy, in stuff which is truly important for them, we've gotta give our full fledged support to them.

The Russian K-152 Nerpa nuclear attack submarine, which is currently carrying out workup trials in the Russian Far East, will be transferred to India on a 10-year lease in the fall, a spokesman for the Amur Shipbuilding Plant said on Friday.

The workup includes a training program for the Indian crew to ensure they can operate the submarine's systems, the spokesman said.

The lease contract, estimated at some $900 million, was drawn up following an agreement between Moscow and New Delhi in January 2004, in which India agreed to fund part of the Nerpa's construction.

The Nerpa was scheduled to be introduced into the Indian Navy as INS Chakra by mid-2008 but technical problems stalled the process.

Twenty sailors and technical workers were killed onboard the submarine shortly after the start of sea trials in November 2008, due to a toxic gas leak when the automatic fire extinguishing system malfunctioned. The boat is now fully operational following repairs.

It was completed with Indian money...and $650 mil has been paid already....

What ever had been paid, increase it a time and half, and it will be delivered the next day. There is a major inflation issue with Russia weaponry sold to India now a days. I hope the lesson learned is "Don't trust the commies. "
