Guys calm down on derailing this thread into a slanging match, and one bordering on looks, slums and what not.

The basic premise (and what I think this person was trying to articulate), is that in a large metropolis like Mumbai, someone from Karachi can find distinct similarities. Is the language (hindi) different? No. Is the food hugely different? No. Are the roads, buildings, bazaars, traffic, noises, smells all different? No.

Do the people look different, do they dress massively different? Again, no. We're not comparing Shanghai to Karachi, we're comparing Mumbai to Karachi from that indivduals perspective and there are similarities. Why is this so hard to accept for some?

It's just hatred and nothing else that leads to the flame wars, pointless arguing and cheapshots that we see 7 pages into the discussion.

Of course in a country as diverse as India, there are people within it that are different to one another. So I and everyone else knows that someone in Chennai will have little in common with someone from the town of Nowshera in the province of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. But this article is focused on someone from Karachi, visiting Mumbai, and sharing their experiences.

It's not that difficult to grasp.

Are you a Muhajir?

Its like some one is really getting hurt from the news from new york. lol

Read SMC's post. We had a huge debate on this news on this forum. You can check that thread for further details. :)

We are from Arabs, or persians or Turk or even from Mars but we aren't the same with Bharatis and we don't want to be same. Got it. So please spare us.

So speak Arabic, Persian, Turkish or Martian - why speak Indian languages like Urdu, Punjabi and Sindhi?

.
No the religion was not different. Through out India there were places with both Hindu and Muslim majorities.

again, no one is talking about religion here, many Pakistani members have already emphasized this already!

There was not a single dissimilarities in terms of culture. Even the official language of Pakistan born in India.

Tell me what similarities we have in regards to culture, as far as i have observed i have nothing in common with the common indian and neither do most of Pakistanis i know (besides Punjabis)

Punjabis and Sindhis compromise ~75% of Pakistan's population. Pashtuns are less than 20%.

like i said before Pakistan isn't only comprised of Punjabis so get that out of your head!

Pakistan's population (appr)

Punjabi 76 million
Sindhi 36 million
Pashtun 28 million
Baloch 6 million

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2075.html

Punjabi 44.68%, Pashtun (Pathan) 15.42%, Sindhi 14.1%, Sariaki 8.38%, Muhajirs 7.57%, Balochi 3.57%, other 6.28%

all of the non Punjabi minority groups put together make up 55.32% of Pakistan's population!

Than I am a Kashmiri pandit. I am also very different from most of the Pakistanis.

good for you, i'm not the one here trying to prove that we are the same as indians!

We are from Arabs, or persians or Turk or even from Mars but we aren't the same with Bharatis and we don't want to be same. Got it. So please separate us.

Why should we accept you as Bharatis if situation like arise? I mean like NY. :woot:

Stop shouting that, 'we are not like Indians'. I think no Indians are claiming anything like that. Just like people of BD, Maldives, Nepal and SL are also not Indian.

When did Urdu become the indian in the first place.

Do these used to exist in India before the advent of Muslims.

So,what does this Muhajir mean actually??

Muslims belonging to an ethnic group outside of the regions of Pakistan who migrated there during and after Partition are called Mohajirs. So if a Muslim moved from Amritsar or Jalandhar to Lahore he was not a Mohajir but if a Muslim moved from Hyderabad or Lucknow to Karachi or Lahore he was a Mohajir.
