Entire BSF use Tavors, most of IA still use INSAS. So cut the bulls*it here, that is 4 main types in widespread usage. AK, Sigs, INSAS and Tavor.

A 4 year old can do a google search of Indian Army and most pics will show them using INSAS, so kind of weird you do not mention it, surely not that embaressed of it?
None of the below are SF, all are standard Indian units BSF/Army. All pics recent, all pics show 4 different rifle types.

paramilitary or not, they are part of the country's armed forces, it is simply lame to equipped 4 types of rifle from 4 different countries and even phasing out the indigenous insas.
Just Improved the damn insas and issue them to every soldier to ease logistical nightmare.

7 different fighter types, 4 different rifles, it does seem there is often little foresight or joined up thinking, could be a result of many purchases being spurred on by politics and budget constraints. If they were going to compeletly replace the INSAS (which is a joke even within the Indian Army), do it wholesale, in one big go with one type and just be done with it.

INSAS isn't a joke. Army and paramilitary forces have been using it for 30 long years. If it was joke, then it wouldn't been used for last 3 decades.
INSAS will continue to be used by Paramilitaries even though Army has gone gone for different caliber altogether.

Its part of the forces that defend India. Just like Rangers in Pak, who use Pak Army standard issue rifles

INSAS isn't a joke. Army and paramilitary forces have been using it for 30 long years. If it was joke, then it wouldn't been used for last 3 decades.
INSAS will continue to be used by Paramilitaries even though Army has gone gone for different caliber altogether.

INSAS was introduced to replace SLR and just a few years after introduction it was decided to replace it. You do not equip a 1 million man army with a new rifle then replace it after a few years. It's defects are well known and recorded, in your blindness to see any criticism of anything India you are now making up your own alternate realty. Below is from an Indian source before you cry about bias.

" The INSAS or Indian New Small Arms System rifle drew heavily from other designs but never really performed like any of them. During the Kargil conflict in 1999 – when the Indian Army engaged the Pakistan military after it took positions on the Indian side of the Line of Control – many damaged weapons returned to the factory and fresh lots had to be sent out. There were complaints of jamming, magazines (cartridge holders) cracking due to the cold, and rifles going into automatic mode when they were set for three-round bursts. There was also a problem of oil being sprayed into the eye of the operator. Some injuries during firing practice were also reported. "

" The Nepalese Army had similar complaints. In August 2005, after 43 soldiers were killed in a clash with Maoists, a Nepalese Army spokesman called the rifles they used substandard and said the counter-insurgency operation would have been more efficient with better weapons. "

No need to be pedantic, what is teh role of the BSF? To protect India's borders and act as the first line of defence. Issue is this, whatever formation, force or organisation you look at in India you will see a biwildering array of weapons, I mean massive. You look at any Pak force, police, Rangers, FC, Army, Air Force and you can go into any base and they will have either a AK or a G3 on them. Literally everywhere. If you cannot understand why that is important then best you stop posting on a miliatry forum

INSAS are being phased out, Tavors are few in number for specialised units of BSF, Rest the common rifles are going to be SiG and AK.


And Ya, BSF does not fight during the war, just fyi if a war breaks then the security of the Borders will be Army’s responsibility not BSF’s, it is just a border Police, FC is a Paramilitary force like Assam Rifles or SFF is.

no matter how they sugar coat it, 4 types of rifles, phased out indigenous insas, urgent deal of 70k ak, any one of the above is already a big shame let alone all of them for a country of 1.4 billion people.

It’s modified and upgraded iterations are and will still be in use with Police Forces.

BSF engages in combat with Pak forces on the border often, read up on it. INSAS will not be phased out till you get at least another 1 million rifles. All the SIGs and AK purchases only add up to a few hundred thousand. Better you wake up to reality then continue to embraress youself.
